does any know any thing about doing Japanese amine figures mostly sexy women figures I saw two at he 2007 convention and one kit was manufactured by Volks, but I wasn’t able to meet the modeler who built her I wish I knew how to send a photo of her, I would like to model her myself I would any information would be helpful thank you-
Thought I’d check out the link given by jgeratic1 for e2046.com and they do list some cool figures and a lot that I would’t touch or think of entering into a contest, those being way too erotic for my taste and I’m no prude (Those Japanese always did love HUGE breasted women!)
But I did purchase two 1/6th figures from e2046 with no hassles and it took just 6 days to arrive. The figures came bubble wrapped, each tucked inside a plastic storage tub for added protection which is a nice touch. The kits themselves are nearly seamless and boy! 1/6th is a big scale but easier to see and work on with my aging eyes!
I was please with e2046 and though I did checked out Hobby Fan and added that link to my favorites too, e2046 has some better prices and I have already purchased another kit from them.
The artist’s name is Cody Kwok, I think he’s based in Washington state. His work is really amazing, and his website is well-organized and thought-out. You can see pictures of his work, online builds, and also a good collections of painting and kit-building tips, that apply to not only to painting anime kits, but to general kit painting and building.
I think we should explain what a recast is. Unless you are a figure modeler alot of people do not know.
By definition a recast is an unlicensed and unauthorized reproduction of someone elses original kit. Usually inferior in quality and detail from the original. Sold at a much lower price than an original.
The original artist or kit company gets no compensation from the recaster. Essentially they had their work stolen from them!
If you are not one of the lucky few who can afford to attend Wonderfest in Tokyo and get one of those “one-day-Wonderfest-only” special figures , you are out of luck. Good luck finding one on any of the auction sites, you may occassionally find one from a vendor who may have acquired it from an estate, etc. The originals from Wonderfest and other fancons are very limited.
There are numerous female figures sold from reputable companies around the world in thier original packaging, but there are VERY few of them that are anywhere near anime style. Most are more “European flavored”.
One source for what seems to be original licensed figures is found here
As in all things, the way to obtain anime girl figuresis to visit the Wonderfest show in Japan, find a US outlet like when Hobbylink Japan recently visited Anahiem at the Nationals, order direct from the manufacturer in Japan IF they have someone in the US to import it and/orare willing to ship outside of Japan, create the master pattern yourself and cast and mold it up (making sure it does not infringe on any previously created character or copyright) or do what most mortals do and go recast.
Patlabor…Thanks for the miniature-park link. I checked out their website Monday morning and placed an order for 4 various 1/35th WW-II German woman figures and to my surprise I received the order on Friday. Not bad for coming all the way from Tokyo. I give them a [tup] for fast service
