The construction phase of my Dragon 1/35 Jagdtiger is complete. I airbrushed the camo pattern yesterday nad started to paint the details. In my research I have seen different interpretations of how to paint what I believe are the barrel cleaners on either side of the tanks hull. Pictures of the existing tanks today mainly show that the barrel cleaners were painted alternating red and white while other modellers have chosen to paint then in accordence with their cammo pattern. If anyone can shed light on the matter it would be greatly appreciated. And now for the Pictures…
Looks good Dog. Sorry, can’t answer your question. I think it’s more a personal choice on the matter.
when posts are coloured red and white, thats meens that there Range posts
some peaple think the barrel cleaning rods are range posts and paint them red and white
i cant tell you at this moment whether the posts on the Jagdtiger are Range posts or not
but range posts are normaly on artillery
Thats a good lookin build there, Dogg! These are just the rods that screwed together to punch the gun tube. I have seen the candy striped ones you are referring to. I would think if the vehicle was camoed in the field, they would be sprayed right over. I think Tigerman is right, just go with whatever you want.

So I guess these would be range posts: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://apma.org.au/reference/afvs/jagdtiger/jagdtiger02.jpg&imgrefurl=http://apma.org.au/reference/afvs/jagdtiger/jagdtiger.html&h=563&w=750&sz=87&tbnid=ix1vyPpJmr0J:&tbnh=105&tbnw=140&start=9&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djagdtiger%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26rls%3DGGLC,GGLC:1969-53,GGLC:en%26sa%3DN
I can’t think of one reason while a vehicle in combat would be carrying rangeposts. First, these ARE the rods that are for cleaning the gun tube (lay them out end to end and they will approximate the caliber(length) of the weapon). Secondly, If you’ve ever been to a tank range, you’d have to have an awful bunch of these to adequately mark your range. Third, the range posts are on the range and they stay there for a purpose.
Steve
Crockett: the purpose for range posts is for indirect firing of artillery pieces. They are placed some distance behind the field piece where the aimer calibrates his weapon for subsequent fire missions. Range posts have nothing to do with a “firing range”. You see them on Hummels (sFH 18 15cm), Wespen (leFH18 105mm), M7 Priests , etc.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY BARREL CLEANING RODS would have been painted this way. They’re just mistakes, plain and simple.
ericadeane;
Hey thanks for that info, I’m just a tanker and didn’t get the gun bunny thing with the range sticks or whatever. You learn somethin’ new everyday!
thanks again
Steve
So whats the conclusion? Are they just barrel cleaning rods and should therefore be painted according to my camo?
In a word…yes…either camo or german gray
paint them normal used look
