Jagdtiger fender question.

Next year I plan to build a 1/35 Dragon Jagdtiger with Zimmerit. I was wondering about the fenders. Are the plastic fenders that come with the model too thick or would it be better to get a Eduard or Royal Model fender with Zimmerit set? I plan to make some damaged by having some parts missing and maybe bend up a little but that doesn’t have to be but the missing fender parts for sure.

If the fenders that came with the model are just the right thickness then that’s what I’ll use. I just want it to look right.

So you are talking about #6351 the Porsche Jagdtiger that you must apply your own zimm ?

Most kit plastic fenders are one piece and usually a little out of scale, also you would need to cut up the sections. The metal might be the way to go for you, more flexibility.

Dragon also makes a newer Porsche version # 6493 which has the zimm molded on,its pretty nice but also has one piece fenders that have zimm but would still have to be cut if you wanted individual sections.I did do that one and it is a beautiful kit,it comes with MT’s but they are tough to deal with,I used Fruils. Here is mine.

Only the Porsche had zimm, hope this helps

That’s the one I have, #6493.

I will be cutting the fenders with some of them laying on the ground. The thickness WILL show both on the tanks and on the ground.

It would probanly work better for you to use metal, some guys do carefully thin plastic ones with a dremel from the insode though. As you see I did mine one piece do it wasnt a huge issue.

If you want them displayed like that i would deffinetly use PE ones. I don’t have a jagdtiger, but from what i have seen on other newer Dragon kits they have a really thin outside edge to the plastic which is fine if just fitted to the vehicle. As Tony says, you could thin the plastic, but i find the metal ones better especually if you want damage on them.

Well I might have to do that. I just found out the Eduard PE set requires TWO pieces glued together to make one fender to make them THICKER. I could use that and if there is a gap showing I could fill them with putty. Or I guess I could use your idea about thining out the ones that came with the model.

I guess the only way to know is to go ahead and get the Eduard and try it then decide which works better. I don’t know why I get myself into this complex stuff when I could keep it simple.

Hi,

There is also a Voyager set available.

Not sure about your statement that the Eduard set requires two pices to make one fender though, I think you will find that each side is made up of 4 individual sections + front and rear splash guards.

Aber also has a set of fenders, i tend to prefer theirs myself.

Here’s what I’m talking about. Hope this link works.

You have to first put one on and then another one on top of that.

Woops - sorry m8 - my bad [:|]

Good that it is vacation time soon, message to myself:
“Read the whole text, read it twice or as long as it takes to get it right”.

Now back to google - why / does the JT have sandwitched fenders?

Svenne

No. I discovered both the front and sides are called fenders by Eduard so I used that.

The only reason I can think of is the sides are too thin and they were trying to make it look thicker.
