Jagdpanzer IV L/70

Hello all

Recent reading of ‘Panzer Gunner’ has me interested in a build – I am attracted at the simplicity of the Tamiya kit, but it seems the modern Dragon offering is the gold standard – can anyone comment on a comparison ? Also would like to see if anyone has an opinion on aftermarket ‘must haves’ for either kit?

Thanks !!

Well, the Tamiya kit was designed almost forty years ago with a hull meant to be motorized and holding batteries. It’s a quick and easy kit. Can be found very cheap on eBay, etc.

But DML is a near new release with tons of better detail and accuracy. Most of what you need is already in the box.

There is no comparison. It’s akin to a Model A and a Bugatti Royale.

The old Italeri kit is also a nice build.

The Tamiya kit builds up real nice. You also have a choice of two main guns. You’d probably save a few bucks with Tamiya if you’re on a budget.

You want old? I still have a Nichimo Kit on my shelf. It’s like electronic stuff, I just can’t keep pace!

DML is the gold standard—I have their newest SMART Jagdpanzer…The Tamiya kit actually has some really nice subtle details that will still make a very nice model. Worst thing about it are those darn open sponsons–like most Tamiya tanks have…

Well it is if you have a big wallet…but i’d take the Tamiya one ANY DAY. Sufficient details, simple build and no fuss tracks. Throw on a good paint job and weathering…YOU’RE GOOD TO GO!!!

I’d opt for Italeri vs Tamiya. They were better detailed for the age and they don’t have the stupid motorization compromises. About the same price on ebay too. Italeri might even be cheaper though harder to find.

very helpful – I noticed limited photo etch included w/ DML kit – can anyone advise if Aber/Eduard/etc. might be required for mesh, schurzen, etc?

Reviews mentioned the stock barrel to be satisfactory

Thanks again!!
