Jagdpanzer IV L/70 Finished 9-14-08

May I humbly submit for you viewing pleasure Tamiya’s Jagdpanzer IV L/70 . Spruced up a little bit with Eduards PE and alum. barrel, MK workable tracks, and some resin steel wheels. Nice little build to be honest, took some time due to RL issues but I am very pleased with how it turned out. Time to go on the shelf next to the tank hunting StuGs…

As always, comments and critiques are more than welcome!!! Thanks for looking!

Gorgeous build, Jester–nice, subtle weathering and washing. And for an oldie, this sure came out like a newer build! I always loved this kit–I always loved that included figure too!.

The only thing I see that sticks out to critique would be that you might want to weather the insides of the track runs. You have the insides as rusty, but on a vehicle like this–especially with the front metal roadwheels–you would have the inner face of the tracks well-worn to a dark metallic gray.

Just one quetion too–did you mistakenly get a bit of silver or steel on the spare road wheel on the back deck there? It looks a little bit like it was drybrushed with it?

Other than that, it shines! A beautiful job!

Very nice work Jester75!! I like the steel rimmed wheels at the front stations and for the spares! They do look like steel to me and the camo is just right! [tup]

nice L/70 jester.she looks like shes ready to kick some sherman %$$.really like the camo scheme to.will compliment the stugs very well.

Doog- thanks man!! Shouldn’t be a big deal to go back and fix the inner tracks. I totally overlooked that!

Panther F, detailfreak- thanks fellas, I am very pleased with how it turned out!

In the mean time, I know it may be sacreligious[:-^], but I’ll be in the aircraft forum for a quickie!! Feel free to take a look, if its not too painful! Remember, just keep the exposure time to a minimum and there may not be to much long term damage[swg].

Hey jester, nice little build-up of the Jagd. I really like the camo job. Did this kit come with the shorter 75mm too? Did it have motorization compromises? The additions really paid off.

Thanks Eric!! It did come with the 75mm barrel as well as the long one. I wrecked the long one trying to turn it smooth so I used the alum barrel instead. It did have the holes in the sides of the hull and the bottom. I taped the outside of the hole with clear tape and filled the insides with putty. You would never know they were there!!

Thanks Eric. I have DML one, but ran into some problems, most of them my own stupidity. I was contemplating a replacement.

…looks great, my Huber went up higher on the next to build list.

Yep my Huber just got higher on the list too.[:D]

Excellent job Eric and it sure is a keeper for sure.[tup]

…Tony the Mutt…

Thanks for the great comments everyone!!! I was a bit nervous[:I] about the pics with the black background so I am glad to hear that they are being received well!!

(Now I have to go find out what a Huber is![:O])

You do good Jagd…this is a very nice build…the weathering of the paint is very nice; is this done through the oil-dot method? Colors and scheme are great…Looks to be a late-war Jagd…track cleats could use a tad more wear on them…Great pics and cool background but also would like to see an overall shot as all of them clip off the end of that cool looking barrrel…two thumbs up…

[:)]

Huber, Johann Hubers’ L/70 is the kit sold at the 2005 Atlanta Georgia

Dragon Expo.

…Tony…

Your wish is my command Herr FeldMarshall…

Sure is a big [censored] barrel isn’t it??[(-D]

And one next to his tank hunting brethren…

Will get back to the cleats for sure. Funny you should mention weathering the paints. I took a different approach on that. I took some chalk pastels that were a bit ligher shades that the redbrown and the olivgrun and brushed the centers of the colors respectively with a stiff brush loaded with the pastels. Followed it up with a raw umber oil pin wash and some stipling with a sponge and some burnt sienna oil and bada boom, there she is.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Doh, I see that now, I thought everyone was refering to some kind of vehicle, lol!![:I]

Whoah! Jester! Very cool! [8D]

Very solid build - other than what was already mentioned about the spare wheels, not seeing anything I don’t like. Something about that camo scheme - so simple, but so good! May have to play around a bit with your pastel-fading method.

Two thumbs up! [tup][tup]

Nice L/70 Jester!! I know you’ve been working on this for a while! Correct me if I’m wrong, bu wasn’t it supposed to be made for “The Hunters GB”? If so, at least you’ve finished it (with great results!)…my L/70 for that GB is still languishing in the box.[sigh] When I do get to it I hope it looks as nice at yours! I really like that camo job![tup]

Jester: Nice job on this old kit!!!..I’ve got this bad-boy in my stash and hope to get to it sometime soon. The camo’ is nicely done…you might want to add some subtle variations/shading so they stand out a bit more though. I really like the exhaust and the work done on the rear deck accessories! Interesting color variations on the road wheels…I like it!

The lower hull appears greenish…is that just me or is it intentinally done?

Wow, thanks everyone!!

Dupes-the pastels work great!! I absolutely love em, plus its kind of hard to screw up a good AB job with pastels, just wash em off if you dont like em!!

bufflehead- Thanks man! Yeah I have been whittling away at this one in my limited free time! This was for the Hunters Group Build, but as par for my record on Tigerman’s group builds, I missed the deadline!! How come you didn’t finish yours??

SMJ-I see that greenish hue on the lower hull, must be the shadow playing tricks on my cam because its no where near green in RL
