I have the Dragon Jagdpanzer IV A-0 kit, which is essentially the older 9021 kit with a new upper hull and barrel.
How many pre-production A-0 vehicles (approx) were there, and when did the last one retire? (or, more likely, get KOed) I don’t want to put it in a diorama a year too late for it[%-)]
From what I can find the 0 series (pre-production) of the Jagdpanzer IV series were first produced in January 1944. They were primarily used for training purposes although a few may have served with Panzer Lehr. They were based on chassis from the Pzkw IV F. I have some great reference books at home so I’ll see what I can dig up for you this evening. [:-^]
Well I dug through my references and can’t really find anything to add. The general concensus seems to be that 3 were produced, and it’s possible that one or more wound up with the Panzer Lehr and possibly one with the Herman Goering Division in Italy.
The link that Kykeon provided has an excellent discussion of the Jagdpanzer IV A-0. [8D] [tup] [tup]
Well, thanks everyone. Guess it is one of those like Wittman’s V-B tiger - prabably never will know exactly. Also I’m assuming that the monotone dark yellow vehicle with “schulungsfahrzeug” on the side is probably one of the training vehicles?
Does anyone know where the training vehicles were used?
I just got that exact kit in the mail yesterday. It’s some sort of 10th anniversery update of the original. When do you plan to start your build? Maybe we could get a mini-GroupBuild going on the Jagdpanzer.
Sounds good to me. I have a lot to keep me busy till then - currently building the Trumpeter Sturer Emil. Kind of a coincidence since the Sturer was also a non-production vehicle, and only 2 were ever built. From what I’ve read, it was an excellent design. But manufacturing resources were directed to the Tiger instead, and the Sturer never made it past the original prototypes.
Get ready to do some wheels. This baby has 28 full sized wheels (3 sets of road wheels - 8 wheels per set + 2 drive wheels + 2 idler wheels). When you count them all up (2 complete sprues) there are 72 individual parts to be glued together to assemble the wheels. Thats a lot of wheels !!
The kit looks really good though and is worth the effort of getting past this initial task. The chassis is huge, and the interior detailing is very nicely done. Hopefully I’ll get to plow through this during the holidays.
