Quick question as I can’t seem to find a good pic.
I’m building Tamiya’s Jagdpanther Late and am onto the painting phase.
I’m dispaying it with the drivers hatch open. Now If I’m right, the underside of the hatch should be the off-white interior colour? Do you agree?
No. The white undersides of hatches that were exposed when opened were eliminated (logical if you think about it). Photos exist where you see an occasional white hatch on early-mid war Dk Grey vehicles – but even those were rare. I’ve never seen a photo of a late war AFV with white exposed hatches – especially on a Panther or Panther variant. Go with dk yellow – possibly primer red.
Not meaning to nit pick but I’m aware that some late war vehicles didn’t even bother to paint the interiors of hatches – leaving them as primer red. However, wouldn’t the entire interior, including the rear hatch have been left in the red? It seems incongruous to me that the rear hatch be ivory with the upper hatches in red.
What I’m saying is if the AFV was produced at a time where the interiors (and rear hatch) were being painted ivory, wouldn’t we also assume the upper hatches have gotten the attention of being painted in dark yellow?
It’s in the Imperial War Museum, which is an establishment in London. They have a few interesting things there, I understand. I intend to have a look in November to make sure of it.
