Hi guys,
Quick question. I need a Jadg panzer or a PZ IV for a diorama and I see some options from Tamiya and Dragon. Tamiya late version of Jagd panzer, Dragon early type with aluminum barrel and PE. Also, a PZ IV Ausf J with PE and Zimm. I think this is a tamiya kit but might be a dragon. Anyone have some experience with these kits? Any one of them in particular stand out? Any alternate suggestions I am missing? You guys are a great help so far, I have my fall and early winter just about planned out. Now if only I could fit work in their somewhere.
The PE on the Tamiya Panzer IV is made by Eduard and I don’t care for it. It’s too uniform and lackless of detail. The kit is overpriced also.
The Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV, I believe is out of production. It came with a long barrel. I built an Nichimo one many a moon ago. I would lean to the Dragon version if you can find it, better value for the buck. You get PE, barrel and indy tracks as a bonus.
Sorry, did you mean Jagdpanther? I hear Tamiya’s is a dream to put together, but has no indy tracks. Like you said the Dragon early Jagdpanther comes with the before mentioned extras. I’d say tough call.
Eric is right the Tamiya Jagdpanther is a breeze to put together but the tracks are somewhat lacking in function. One could always scrounge a set of DML tracks to put on it though. Which is what I will end up doing on mine most likely…whenever I can finnish it…
As far as jadgpanzers… go for the DML kits all the way. What they may lack in one area they make up for in others like the indi links… Tamiyas and Italeri’s old jagdpanzers are crap i wouldn’t even look at them twice when given a choice for DML…

Yah the rubberband tracks are lacking and look rather phoony. They do save a great deal of assembly time though. I think Tamiya or Academy makes some Panzer IV indy tracks.
Both Academy and Tamiya make generic Pz IV indy track sets. I’ve never used either but have contemplated them for various projects at one time or another. Price is reasonable from what I can tell.
DML also sells thier indi sets alone… They are about 8 or 12 bucks something like that…
I have built both Jagdpanzer IV and the Jagdpanther from Tamayia and they are great!
