Here are a few photos of my nearly finished J2M3 Raiden “jack”. This is a 1/48 Hasegawa kit. I really like the black and yellow scheme for the late-War home defense squadrons. It if my first attempt at a good deal of weathering, but I didn’t want to overdue it. As with all my builds, I learned a few things…mainly that I need to do a better job fixing the masking tape before I spay…this saves time in the multiple touch-ups! As for the positive I tried a new dry brushing technique and am fairly happy with the coackpit gauges.
Most importantly, I had a lot of fun, which in my humble opinion, is what modelling is all about.
Thanks for looking!
Very nice work. Keep them coming…
Pretty nice work on the Jack. That’s one of Hasegawas better kits. Thanks for sharing.
Regards, Rick
I just started the Tamyia kit (61018) and I’m truly amazed how easily it’s going together. The FSM, Apr '97 was a big help in getting around some of the minor problems.
Hope my bird comes out looking half as good. [bow][bow][bow]
Great looking job on the Jack. Bryan

Please post your pics as you go along. This is one of my favorite Japanese warplanes. Which color scheme are you going with?
Really like you Jack. The black scheme is very interesting.
Very nice build and a very unique scheme. Thanks !
Chris
Beautiful work on the Jack, thanks! [:)]]
Take care,
Frank
Good job on the Jack, I got one my self it was a pretty simple build

Looks good, mucker !
I’ve built four of these. It’s a great little kit. That’s a scheme I’ve never seen before. Where did you find it?
Looking forward to the progress !
Pixilater:
Last year I found a bargain book called “Combat Aircraft of WWII”( for $5), which is pretty extensive in it’s coverage of most of the WWII planes. It’s a great quick reference for modelling. There is a full page three-view layout of this plane with these colors and the same tail number.
I am thinking of a semi-gloss coat to cut down on some of the glare, and then I need to add the bomb racks under wing, the antenna (I hate antennas!!!) and the pitot tube on the wing (at least I think that’s what it’s called).
I’ve seen a ton of beat up IJN green schemes done, and not only did I want to do something different, I was really drawn to this paint scheme.
Thats a beautiful paint job. I’ve never seen the yellow band that wide before. Could you explain, I’m trying to increase my knowledge in an area I’m lacking.Allen
Really nice job, I like the yellow n black scheme.[tup]
Allen:
I am not sure of the actual dimensions, or even the historical accuracy of the bands, but I was going off of a diagram in a reference book. I just eyeballed the diagram and tried to mark it the best I could using the panel lines. Here is an on-line side-view of the same plane. I think I need to add the yellow lines aft the exhaust pipes now! (Oops!)
Very nice build there Mucker. I love the color scheme and weathering. great job!

Great model.i especially like the subtle weathering that follows the panel lines and access panels.I did not realize that the Japanese ever painted their planes all black.!
Nice build, and such an attractive color scheme I know I’ve got to add one to my to-do list! Looks like you’re first heavy weathering turned out well, and that office is very well-detailed.
BTW, how does that Loctite stuff work for you? Is it any good for filling gaps, and is that tip any good?
Philo426: From the little I’ve read, it seems that this color scheme was for a special Home Defense force. I’m sure someone out there would know a lot more about this. I haven’t seen any other planes done in this scheme, so I thought I just HAD to do a Raiden.
cdclukey: I’ve been happy with the loctie so far. I does fill larger gaps pretty well and exceptionally well with zip-kicker accelerator applied. What I really like is the controlability with the applicator tube/bottle. I’ve only had to clean out the nozzle a few times and I’ve ALWAYS been able to use the entire bottle before it dries rock solid inside. Other than that, it’s just like most super glues. Like the others, it will haze a clear canopy, so it can’t be used for everything.
