J-Hulk's Gifu Castle (pix)

More scanning madness from my old photos!
Here are 2 pix of Doyusha’s 1/350 Gifu-jo (Gifu Castle) I built back in 1995 for the Japanese Language Department at the University of Georgia.
Wonder if it’s still there…

It’s the first and only castle model I’ve ever built, but ever since then I’ve been wanting to do another. Nice kit, easy build.

Anyone else out there building Japanese castles?

Here are the pix, lemme know what you think!

I noticed after scanning that these pix are pretty scratched up.
Will an application of Future fix pictures, too?[;)]

Excellent looking Castle J-Hulk. Thanks for sharing.

Thats nice Brian. I’ve always wanted to build a scaled down european castle. Maybe you should refer to Swanny’s guide about fixing the pics, I’m sure it has to be one of the 10,000 uses of Future. Thanks for putting those up.

that a beauty j-hulk , i never seen a real one [V] but i think i just seen one from you [:D] thanks for let us taking a look , your the best

Very nice Brian. Certainly is a change from the norm around here.

A pleasure to see !!!

Excellent work Brian! A nice change from the battle scenes. What did you build this out of? And don’t say Future! [(-D]

Great work on the castle. 1/350 scale. Too small for me to build

Hey, J-Hulk that’s a great one. Looks real. And it looks even smaller that a bonsai. Those Japanese Castles are really wonderful. I have lots of pictures with the one in Tokyo which I took the last time I was there. The “angled gate entrances” is really a smart idea agains battering rams. But the guardhouses for the shogun guys near the gate is a bit funny because the ceiling is too low. (The tour guid said it is because Japanse people back then are very small.) You post really brings back some memories.

But wait! Where’s Godzilla? LOL.

Love it J-Hulk. Do you have it on display? How big is it?

Oh. After a re-read, it is obviously on display. Sorry.

I wondered who built that. Brian, it’s still there, although not as prominently as before. Good work. You captured the essence of Japanese castles with this one. Nicely done.

Thanks for the pics, nice to see different works. Great job.

Excellent castle…J-Hulk

Regards, Dan

that looks amazing!!!

That’s very cute!

Thanks, folks!
Cute? Cute?!? [:D]
Well, yeah, I guess it is…it is actually one of the smaller castles in Japan, set high atop a mountain in Gifu Prefecture. You can see it as you pass Gifu Station on the Shinkansen (bullet train). The model is about 10 inches high.

Dwight, do you remember which castle you saw? I didn’t see any castles when I lived in Tokyo (I know there’s gotta be some around there, though!). We have a huge one here in Osaka. Looks great from the outside, but it was rebuilt in the 1950’s, so the inside is quite modern (it has an elevator!). I went to Himeji Castle this past weekend, and it is truly amazing. It’s huge, and all original. If I do another castle model, it’s gonna be Himeji Castle!

Hey, should we get a castle group build going?[:D]

Nice Brian. Something different is always welcome.

That’s cool Brian! They scanned pretty good, but I wouldn’t future the photos!! lol, I bet it would work but if they ever got flexed the future would shatter!

Eric

Very nice castle J-HULK! I’d be up for a castle group build. Was this a kit or a scratchbuild? I think I saw some Japanese castle kits in the Walthers Trains Catalog. Unsure why, it that was the place. I know I have seen them some where before. I have always loved the Japanese culture (midevil time periods). I have been trying to learn Japanese but I cannot seem to find a college close by that teaches it unless I pay with blood. Some day I would like to visit but since I am not in the near future I wouldn’t mind building a castle.

That is awesome!!! so that’s what happens when one models, instead of posting, eh?! I’ll have to get on that!! LOL
