I have a Iwata revolution, Last night i was using (mm) primer for the 1st time and when I sprayed it on the 1st time it was to thin, and the 2nd time I didnt thin it and it was drying at the end of my gun and jamming up. Can anyone tell me if I even need to thin my primer, and why is it drying so fast and jamming the brush. What am I doing wrong?[B)][:(]
Thad
what kind of pressure are you using thad? what brand primer is it?
I think I am at 10 to 15 psi and I am using model master. You know us Aggies we have a hard time with numbers.
Thad
and i ask myself, why am i trying to help an aggie!!![:D] are you guys enjoying coach “Fran” the man? i sure miss ol’ Fran, he’s definetly a good coach, i just dont like the way he departed the University of Alabama. i’m a die hard Tide fan by the way. we sure have been in a mess with our football coach situation for the last couple of years, not to mention all the probation crap as well. i wish the NCAA would go pick on someone else for a while and leave us alone!! go pick on the aggies or something![:P]
anyway, back to the primer thing, i’ve never used mm’s primer before, but 15 to 20 psi nieghborhood should be sufficient to atomize the paint well enough, but i dont know the viscosity as i’ve never used it. if its anything like their enamels, i would maybe thin it starting at 60/40 ratio and work the pressure from that mixture. the cr has a large nozzle opening so i’m guessing the paint must be too thick. what are you thinning with? is the primer acrylic or enamel base? later.
Bama, I just used H2o, & a little windex, What method do you use that I can try and mess up.
Thad
i would say just leave out the windex as this has amonia in it and may be effecting the paint in some way, shape or form. i cant remember, but its either polly scale or mm acryl that will gum up when alcohol is used for a thinner. i take it that the primer is acrylic? if its mm acryl primer, just thin it with water bubba. try that and see what happens. why put the windex in there? i know its good for a cleaning agent, but i dont think its a good thinner component. i could be wrong though. the only acrylics i use is tamiya. i have a few bottles of mm acryl for base coats and such, and i also own a couple bottles of poly scale acrylic paint that i havent used in a while. later.
It is acrylic, this is my 1st time with the mm primer. I use poly s & Tamiya most of the time. Do you use a Tamiya primer? As for the windex I thought I had read on the forum someone doing this so I thought I would give it a try. I was desperate, it was late at night, the kid needed a bottle, I dont have any more excuses.
i hear ya bubba.[:D] ahhh, i use floguil gray primer some and alclad gray primer and both work exceptionally well. you really need an enamel based primer as this will “weld” itself to the plastic where acrylic will not. then, from there you just use whatever you want. i use alclad mostly as this will dry faster and you can overcoat it in an hour or so. also, you can buy krylon primers in the household spraycan and use a straw to spray some into a container, then, load it into your airbrush and apply it to your model. you have to be careful with this as its sometimes tricky to spray without orange peel. but you can wet sand any of the above primers to a very slick and smooth surface. later.
Hey thanks Saltydog Im going to give the enamel a try. Oh by the way I could not stand it I had to go back up to Hobby lobby and pick up a couple more kits, spent all my lunch money for the week. You got anything left in your luch box? Later
Thad
flat broke my friend!! i had my fun at hobby lobby and spent my lunch money as well. later.
I took my Iwata back to my lhs I bought from (way overpriced anyways) and they figured out how much it cost, doubled the tax and gave it ALL back to me including the double tax as store credit. Man I had…stress had 135 bucks of store credit. been going everyday since and buying a little here and there, mostly tools and paints…you know. Plus AM’s IL-2 single seater for the AM build and the frustration MG B-17g for the MG build. It’s almost gone now and my wife, who I have been married too for a year now and this is her first time around me and models, is looking on with an ever increasing worried look [:-^][swg][;)][:P]. This should be interesting.
