it's refreshing to see all the new work.

I want to take a minute to say that it’s great to see this forum revitalized with new blood in the last year. Seems just a year ago there was a discussion here about why the SF forum just didn’t seem to have that much going on.

Now weve got active Ma.K, Gundam, ST:TOS, fig, and BSG threads running WITH PHOTOS!

Glad to see it guys! Keep it coming! I need to get off my own arse and get some photos taken of my WIP’s!

David

I’m glad to see it too. It helps that there seems to be a much more even and mature atmosphere here.

KTM:

Well that’s not my fault… [:D]

I did notice that there are less threads in the sci-fi forums than elsewhere, but there are more replies to those posts. What do you think that means?

^^^ Maybe there hasn’t been a lot done here for awhile and maybe these things are, at their heart, more interesting than things we’ve actually seen in real life. How many Tanks and airplanes can you look at before you’ve seen enough? Not ripping on anyone. I’m a car modeler, that’s where I got my start, but Fantasy and Science Fiction has so many refreashing…possiblities.

[#ditto]

I usually do figures and science fiction allows me a free release with no boundaries.

That’s another good reason. Some people try to make something perfectly accurate to what they see on screen, that’s great, but where’s the creativity in that? I like to make things accurate, but I’m not a rivet counter. If I make something that I want to get a little creative with, then I try to make it an expression of how I feel it, or see it, not how it should exactly represent the original every time. Am I rambling?

One of the reasons I like Gunpla is that I can modify to my heart’s content and not many people out there will fault me for being "WRONG!!!11 " It was wartime, they made do with whatever they had. I’ve had a blast adding interesting little details and damage to my kits, which in the end is most important. I can build a straight up Char Zaku or take tha head and upper body and make the bulldozer variant

David

Maybe on those other forums there’s also a matter of too many threads and not enough time.

I don’t know, on some of those forums you still see four year old threads like “What size is the Enterprise,”
“How big is the Galileo,” “Turbolift position in TOS bridge,” “What color is the the Enterprise,” “How many rivets on the nacelles,” “35 degree offset,”… The same threads I’ve seen over and over and over. I don’t see any of that here. Thank God!

What is ‘Gunpla’? I’m assuming it’s not a typo…?

I think with sci-fi, you guys said it before I did: you’re free to do what you want to.

In my closet I have one of those DML late production Tiger 1s. In reality, all late Tiger 1s had zimmerit paste applied to the hull exterior, but the kit lacks this feature. I’m torn. Part of me just wants to build it OOB. The other part wants to do as fine a job as I can. I’d like a ‘realistic’ model of a Tiger on my shelf, but I really don’t want to spend 100 hours building it. So…it has sat on my shelf, untouched, for over two years now.

I never have that problem w/ sci-fi. I can build a satisfying SF piece in less than 20 hours sometimes, and then move on to another project. (Figures also share this benefit.) When you get to be my age, you begin to worry about how much time you have before your eyes start to give out…

Now I’m rambling. Must be contagious. [:)]

I believe…that is good to ramble!

We all share the same logic here and that is a good thing…we all deal with the real world and all its cool things, but it’s also nice to dwelve deep into the “other” side and see what happens. And judging by the assortment of posts here, alot happens. [:D]

Well said. I really like the flexibility and creativity that the Sci-Fi genre lends itself to. It’s nice to be able to stretch beyound convention and do more expressive work.

“I’m a ramblin guy.”

CosmicJ

Gunpla is the term loosely assigned to [generally] Bandai-produced Gundam plastic models.

David

I agree, the sf forum as of late has been amazing. So many projects !

I just want a decent plastic Serenity.

I don’t mess around with resin, and the cost of the resin Serenity makes it pretty much out of reach.

I remeber about 18 mths ago posting and getting maybe one reply so it is better now. Plus you get more than good job you recieve questions and tips.

So thx guys. I dont post in all topics because some really do not peak my interest(star trek blah) but if it looks really good or catches my eye i will comment.

PLU1:

Oh. I see. Please forgive my ignorance.

I’m down, even if I don’t always savvy the lingo. I got a MG Kampfer on the “in progress” pile. I just gotta fill the seams (ugh) and then get to painting.

btp2k2:

I’ll second that.

I was torn where to post USMC circa 2045, here or figures? I, like Buddho, usually do figures, and this one was a lot of fun. Who’s to say it’s inaccurate?

I have built most of the Federation starships offered in plastic, now in my son’s dorm room, and thoroughly enjoy going to the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Yes there are fewer posts but apparently the posters are way more passionate about their work!

Imagination, wouldn’t it all be boring without it?

It’s early here and I’m tired soenough rambling for now…

Wayner

Whoa. That is so weird. [:O]

I just checked out your Space Marine over in the figures section.

I did a build up of that exact same figure about eight years ago. Except for the camo pattern, you could switch the pieces around and no one would know the difference. (I did mine in a ‘chocolate chip’ camo.) I even put the little pieces of scenic foam on the base.

Clock round under the resin base, right? Like I said, weird.

Needless to say, your figure is tied for the Best Space Marine I’ve ever seen. [:D]

I’d like to see some decent “Appleseed” figures or kits. Deunan’s ORC suit, some of the landmates, or even an affordable Briareos.

Yet more rambling…
