The Challenge:
A good pal, SparrowHyperion, tagged an old classic for me, the Republic XF-91 by Lindberg, but it was missing the underside half of the Starboard wing:
So I decided to re-construct one from Scratch.
Here’s the part that is missing, or Here’s the missing part:
Lot’s of underside detail, holes to drill, wheel well covers, etc.
So it is easy enough to scribe it out of stock styrene sheet, maybe laminate, and carve and sand,
but no time, so I am using a proprietary method to replicate the form.
I started with a 1.5mm styrene stock, and traced the outline:
Next, I traced the outline to the underside, so when I ‘dish,’ I don’t go “out-of-bounds,” and then I cut it out and, of course, left lots of tolerance so when I sand those gluing-surfaces flat, the edges won’t retract,
right?..lol:
Next I started the ‘dishing procedure’:
This is the inside ‘dish’ profile I want to copy:
And so i ‘dished’ it a bit:
Here is what the edge-on view should look like:
Here is where I ended up after ‘dishing-it-out’ a bit, hey, bud,
if you can’t cut it pal, don’t dish it out…lol:
Next round, a bit of trimming, sanding, ‘nuance dishing,’ plotting the scribe-lines and holes, then drilling, scribing, gluing, but fellas, sorry, no rivets for now…lol…
