Italian Ro. 57bis [1/72]

Hey there,

After one of the guys in the local IPMS club broght in his Italian WWII bomber, I decied to dive back into my Italian stach, and came out with an Italian Dive Bomber. This is Special Hobby’s 1/72 IMAM Romeo 57bis. The kit has its good sides and bad. The PE and resin parts are excellent. Most of the cockpit is resin, as are the engines and cowlings. The bombs are resin with PE fins. Overall, I enjoyed the build. I still need to add the clear on the landing lights, but the rest of it is done. Comments and critiques are welcome.

[note- although it doenst show up very well, the panels lines are preshaded.]

Beautiful! :open_mouth: I love it! This is the first time I see builded this very very rare subjet!

Congrats!

Hope see this kit in 1/48 in the market someday.

I love it! Very few of us here are Reggiane Aeronautica fans. I whish more people would notice how beautifull these aircraft were. Especially when it is an unusual subject like you have build. We are forced to build short run and full resin kits to depict the majority of the planes we admire in 1/48 scale. Even though the MC 202 and 205 used the DB605 for a powerplant these planes were far superior to there German counterparts in turning diving and overall stability. I guess we were lucky the Italians never we able to produce them in any numbers. What else do you have oin the stash there viper? I have stashed just about one of everthiing I could get my hands on in 1/72 and 1/48. I have in my stash the Fiat Cr32 Ro 37 Macchi C200 1/72 Br 20. I have build the Mc205 Cr42 and 1 1/72 Mc202. I also have the super expensive 1/32 scale Craftworks C200. I wonder has anybody done a Reggiane Aeronautica group build?

Congrats on a nice build of a rare bird. Too bad these aircraft didn’t come into production when they were needed. I built one of these as a resin kit and have the same kit you have in my stash. Its has characteristics of the more modern fighters with the design elogance of the beygone years.

Soulcrusher - Take a look at Pacific Coast Models line of 1/32 and 1/48 Italian aircraft, they are very good.

Right now I have the Italieri 1/72 SM82 on my bench as well as the Falcon 1/48 RE.2005 and the 21st Century 1/32 M.C. 205. I signed up with the Medium Bomber GB to do the Cant Z.1007bis.

Nice one Rob [tup]. A lot of detail for the small scale. I’d really like to see this one, as well as several other Italian warbirds, in 1/48.

Regards, Rick

That is a great build. I have never seen it before. Odd, but cool.

Thanks guys. I agree with you 100%. I love the styled lines and beautiful paint jobs of the Italian birds.

Built, I have:

  • 1/32 21st Century Macci 202
  • 1/48 Smer Reggian Re. 2000
  • 1/72 Special Hobby Ro. 57bis

Left in the stash:

  • 1/48 Smer MC 200 Saetta
  • 1/48 Hasegawa MC 205 Veltro
  • 1/72 Italeri BR20/M Cicogna
  • 1/72 Italeri Caproni CA-311

I highly recommend the Ro. 57bis kit. the detail is amazing. They give you resin prop hubs, as an option to leave the spinners off and show off more of the engine. Looking back, I wish I had taken that route. Each engine in about 11 resin pieces.

I would love to be in an Italian GB, maybe I’ll host one when my Japanese one ends in November…

It looks like Special Hobby is gearing up to tackle Italian kits in 1/48! They have announced quite a few new ones:

I can’t wait until these see the light of day![:)]

I would love a 1/48 Ro. 57bis. I enjoyed building this one. And a 1/48 one would have so much more detail.

Now there’s one I have never seen before! Beautiful lines, you sure did her proud. Well done! [tup]

gorgeous build! Reggia aurenautica indeed, I smell a GB! Nice build, love the kit, not a common plane… thanks for posting! Cheers
