Italian interior green?

I’m building a Macchi 200, and I realize I have no clue to the proper interior color.

Anybody know?

I love Macchis, too, C.202s and C.205s. I have four in my stash. I also have the new PCM C.200 VII in my collection. Awesome looking kit.

Oops, sorry, to answer your question, go here:

Stormo

Instrument panels were black and interiors painted Verde Anticorrosione FS34272.

That’s right, the interior should be green, I painted an MC202 interior with a mix: interior green FS 34151 + white 4:1, but I’ve seen somewhere an MC200 painted with a pale green like FS 34227, but I think it was a restored aircraft… Good luck!. Most regards.

Thanks guys!

I have an actual engine cowl panel from a Macchi 200 my Dad shot down. He was nuts enough at 22 to take a jeep to the crash site and ship a piece home! Unfortunately after 60 years in the garage, the color inside and out can best be described as “rust” :).

A piece of a shot-down a/c? Wow…cool. The Italian Macchi’s are some of my favorite planes. I have several kits in my stash. The 1/48 Hasegawa’s are excellent kits. All they really need to dress them up are a new seat and Ultracast resin exhausts. That Stormo site has a wealth of information.

John, Lifecolor make the entire range of WWII Italian paints including interior green.

Worth checking out.

Thankee!

Where can I get Lifecolor? I’ve never heard of them.

As far as I know, there is also an Italian colours range in Misterkit ( another Italian brand like Lifecolor, but seems to have more prestige, at least in Europe) White Ensign Models also makes a number, but they are enamels; there is also JPS (or DonColor) which is a German cottage industry, only in acrylics this time. The latter seems very hard to find out of Germany. They sold their products directly to customers at a reasonable price but now you must buy through a couple of shops. If you are interested in one of those producers (Misterkit, Lifecolor,JPS) I think I can find their URLs in my bookmarks. White Ensign is very easy to find, at least their URL.

By the way, I recently read a number of articles about Italian planes on Replic and Wingmaster (I am French) and a lot of tints were made after Gunze mixes.

Checking my FS color giude, it looks like the color is somewhere between ModelMaster’s Isreali Pale Green, and SAC Bomber Green. I could probably get away with Isreali Green if I give it a weathering wash with a darker shade.

I just started the Hasegawa 1/48 Mc205 Veltro. The kit goes together with no effort at all. I also chose to use Model Master pale green FS34227 for the cockpit. It looks like a pretty good match to my eye. Besides I am no rivet counter anyway. Once weathered and installed the colors change anyway.

You will love that kit. I’ve built it. About the only thing extra you’ll need is resin exhausts by Ultracast. I have three Macchi’s in my stash. If you like Italian fighters, check out the new Pacific Coast Models Macchi C.200 VII ‘Regia Aeronautica.’ Another great kit.

There is a walk around of the MC 200 at this site:

Has a color photo of the cockpit (use your eyes to match) and other details may help with your build.

I am an Reggia Aeronatica junkie! I have to stop myself sometime and remind myself I do have kits for the Luftwaffe RAF and US also. Sometimes I get on a roll. I guess it is the Sicilian in me that makes me favor them. Lets face it though some of those planes are beautiful. Especially the Mc 202 205 and the Re2005. The Mc 205 with the Db605 was flown by some Luftwaffe pilots and found to outperform the Me 109 G’s! I guess it was just a case of to little to late and we will never know.

So have I. Something about that shape of plane maybe. I like the Ki-61 Hein ‘Tony’ also. I free handed the smoke rings on my C.205. What a job that was!

Hasegawa has a new 1/48 C.205 coming July '07, #9754, Macchi C.205 Veltro “ANR” (Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana) ~ Limited Edition. Can’t wait. I know, same kit, dif decals. Who cares!

I think I might tackle my Craftworks Macci 200 in 1/32 next. It is a little intimidating working on a $150.00 kit though.

For the Macchi Smoke rings, there are decals available in 1/72 and 1/48 by Mike Grant Decals. I have tried them and they are very thin and work very well. see the link below:

I am an Italian aircraft junkie as well. The smoke rings were a pattern only applied to aircraft built by Macchi themselves. Those aircraft built by Breda and SIAI (I believe) had each different camoflage patterns applied at the factories. That produced some interesting camoflage arrangements when salvaged parts were used to repair aircraft in the field.

Thanks, Tel, I have a set of the smoke rings. But there is some satisfaction saying that I did the smoke rings free hand, you know?
