Italeri Tiger versions

Hello again,
I was just looking at a model my friend had built some years ago of a German Tiger I made by Italeri. He said this kit was great because it came with zimmerit allready applied and it looked really nice with its corresponding photo etched set. I looked at the box which stated that it was a late model tiger I E version. I’ve looked everywhere for this E version and can only fine the E/H1, which lacks zimmerit and late model steel wheels. Does anybody know where I can find this older late model Tiger E?

The Tiger that you are looking for is OOP. Italeri does this quite often but usually brings the kit back for another run every few years. The other options of course is to get one of the other Tiger kits on the market like Tamiya’s or Academy’s (by the way these are superior kits to the Italeri one) or try E-Bay or other forums.

I have both the Tamiya and Academy versions which are top of the line, however they don’t have the molded on zimmeret. I’ve used the resin zimmeret made by cavalier . It came out great but took a long time to apply, so I’m looking for a quicker alternative.

Remember a lot of late production Tigers had no zimm on them. Have you tried making your own with putty or spackle?

I would agree with Shermanfreak (imagine that) get a Tamiya kit and do your own Zimmerit with milliput and get a set of those Tamiya Zimmerit scrapper things. Haven’t tried the Cavilier stuff but have seen the results which are praiseworthy. Costs close to $20 and is slightly less time consuming then doing your own but it is less stressful and the lines are perfect.

WOW…that’s 2 days in a row that someone agreed with me about a “gasp” German Armour kit. I’m on a roll…LOL

I’m with you rs87, I’m an anti-zimmerit type of guy. I picked up the Italeri one without zimmerit and it is a decent build. I won the Tamiya Tiger I Late in a contest and I’ll never build it because it’s supposed to have zimmerit. It was such a nice kit that I went out and found the DAK Tamiya Tiger so I can build it without zimmerit.

BTW, I bought a set of Italeri add-on equipment that included sheets of zimmerit that you cut to shape. I was going to try this on a Panther, but the zimmerit is thicker than the armor plating! The set was cheap, like about $5 and was set #424.
