Hello All,
Well, here’s the latest attempt. It’s built OOTB.
Tried that “wash” thing again and think I did a bit better than in the past. Did however encounter some problems with the track. Tried to take some of the slack out by removing one link. Ended up breaking the left idler off about 4 or 5 times trying to attach the tracks [D)].
Tracks are a bit whopper jawed [:I]. Think I improved in one area and took a step backwards in another.
As always any and all comments, criticisms and questions are welcomed.
Maybe one of these times I’ll get this model building thing down[XX].
Thanks for taking a peek.

Thet’s a good looking cat!! Can’t really tell anything wrong, but that’s how we learn.Fun, ain’t it!!??!! Good job.
Andy,
Fun? Rats! All this time I thought it was aggravation and wasn’t even enjoying it.[banghead][banghead]

Very nice! I like the rusted tracks.
nice lookin cat there panther! good job man
nice job … but that is quite a old kit i can t get in market now … i really need a bregpanther …
[:D] your cat looks real good to me,great tracks.[:D]
Splendid work Joe, weathering looks pretty good. One thing I’d consider is toning the spare tracks and cable down, they look like they’ve rusted in a junkyard for years. Also, I’d paint the periscopes with metallic grey or silver. I know they are hard to reach. Well done on that cat. Was there any other build complications? You don’t always hear enough good things about Italeri. I think they make cool kits, but we all know they are hit and miss with building.
Nice panther by Panther.
Very nicely done. The rust on the spare track links looks very convincing. Also, the dusty worn effect is excellent. How did you do it?
Good looking panther! great job.
Great job on the panther.

Awesome!
Lokks great! [8D]
Hello All,
Thanks for all the kind words. They’re very encouraging.
Leopard,
My friend has kits for sale and this is one that he had. Was going to buy the DML Panther D, but I’m cheap and figured the Italeri one would do the trick.
tigerman,
I need a bit of work on my photograhy skills as well. On my screen things appear much brighter than in real life. The cable and tracks aren’t nearly as rusty looking in person. I was trying to replicate new rust and therefore went with a brighter shade, so I’ll have to watch what I’m doing from here on out.
There are no periscopes for the kit. There’s just the guards, and both sides are open. I had thought about fixing a lense over the front of the guards, but I guess that would be incorrect.
The kit did go together quite well. I made my own mess when I tried to shorten the tracks. Really no fit problems at all.
One thing I like about the Italeri kits is, they have locator marks on the hull, turret, etc. that shows exactly where the part needs to go. Something DML ought to consider.
zokissima,
Well, I wish I could give you detailed directions, but the truth is I just kept fumbling around until I got it to where it looked ( I thought ) decent.[:-^][:I]
Here’s basically what I did, from what I can remember.
When I got the base coat and camoflouge colors on, I wanted to give it a slight dusty look. I thinned some off white, grey or some light color or combinations to give a dusty appearance. When I applied it, the finish came out too uniform even though I attempted to vary the shades by the amount of dust I applied.
I then took mineral spirits and removed most from the brush and tried to streak the finish. Still wasn’t happy, so I took a small brush and applied some whites, greys, browns and black in thin streaks. When that dried a bit, I took the mineral spirits and brushed those colors to blend them in with the finish.
Also took an “off white” wash and applied it around the rims, hubs, joints, brackets and seams. Went back over some of the areas with the base and camoflouge color by dabbing with a small brush. A bit of pastel chalk to try and blend everything together.
Hope that made sense to you, because I re-read it and think I confused myself [8]. Anyway if you have any specific questions let me know and I’ll see if I can clear up the confusion.
Thanks again to all.
