I’ve got a acrylic paint set ordered from Italeri (WWII German Luftwaffe Paint set) and realized what thinner can I use to thin the paint for my airbrush? Do I need to get the Italeri brand thinner or will any thinner work? I do have a 4 oz. bottle of Universal Acrylic thinner from Testors. Even though it states for use with Testors, Model Master, Floquil Pollyscale Acrylics and Aztek Airbrushable Acrylics; will this do?
I just mixed some of the Testors Universal with some Italeri Orange on a plastic palette,I don’t see any stringiness, separation, or any of the effects of an incompatible thinner/paint mixture
I suggest that you mix up a small amount and test that on some scrap sprue, or the inside of a ship kit, etc
If you later want the thinner designed for the Italeri paints, get the larger newer bottle from Vallejo,as Vallejo makes the Italeri paint, and has changed to a new thinner for their paint,and I am sorry, but, I lost track of which is the new and which is the old part number
I have the xxx61 series of Vallejo thinner, and I think that is the old stuff,but, someone else will need to chime in to verify that,the Italeri stuff is at the top of this linked page, the Vallejos are at the bottom www.scalehobbyist.com/…/browse.php

I can get Vallejo thinner at a local Hobby Lobby. I might try that. I just want to make sure it’s not going to gum up my airbrush.
Avoid alcohol or thinners with alcohol in them. Like Rex said they are made by Vallejo. I’ve used a couple of bottles of the Italeri, and like with the Vallejo I thin with distilled water with no issues.

Wait… are you saying to thin Italeri paints with distilled water? I’m sorry if I’m reading this correctly and reading too many answers enough to confuse me what to use/do.
I’ve never used Italeri paints before and I would assume I can thin it using Vallejo thinner for airbrushing and cleaning my airbrush after each use.
Yes. You can thin Italeri paint with distilled water. (Distilled because solids it normal water can cause typical problems like calcification etc). I loathe Vallejo (and by extension Italeri) paint. Their thinner just makes it even harder. There are much better performing options out there. However I also don’t like having to mix colors and sometimes Vallejo (or Italeri) is necessary. Water works well, but I’ve actually been using a 50/50 mix of future and windex lately.
I have cancelled my order through the hobby site I ordered it from due to 2 reasons. One being I never got the order in 3 weeks and I wasn’t pleased with their customer service response time. Looks like I’m giving it a go using Model Master Acryl paints instead.
I had the same “service” when the paints first came into the US. I had to cancel the “great offer” that they had on the web back then,it wasn’t even pulled for shipment a few weeks after I called and made my order.
You will like the color matching better with MM anyway,after a little wait, I ordered three average colors of Italeri from a vendor here,none of the three match the color they are labeled as,Insignia Red, “Insignia” Yellow, or International Orange (doesn’t match the new or the old color)

Heh - a fan actually. When I was a kid, I used to love to watch the hit television show called Baa Baa Black Sheep back in the 70s. I now have both DVD Series of Season 1 and 2. A few years ago, I picked up a book about the Black Sheep Squadron and it rekindled my interest to learn more about the squadron and the bad boy of Black Sheep - Pappy Boyington himself.
I went to my LHS during my lunch break and ordered the MM Acryls colors I needed. I told the owner I’ll stop by after my trip to Maine. In fact the owner - Dan & I went to school together except he graduated 1 year ahead of me. I usually like to stop in time to time to see what’s new and to shoot the bull with Dan. Plus he gives me a little discount sometimes. XD
