Italeri P-38 Question

Does anyone know who’s molds the new Italeri P-38 [kit 2681] actually are, or did Italeri actually come up with something new?

It’s not new. Looks like the Hobbycraft kit to me. Decals are nice, though.

there’s a dead giveaway…

that’s from the minicraft kit… is it the same front wheel well?

Haven’t done a hobbycraft or minicraft kit before so i can’t tell from personal experience but on the dutch forums i vist hobbycraft is often referred to as “hobbycrap”, for a reason i guess…

I have not yet took a peek in the box but I kind of thought it could be Academy. However when I saw the price tag, if I remember correctly about $50, I am starting to think it could possibly be a Hasegawa mold.

Minicraft? Is that one in the same as Hasegawa? I know back in the earlier days, those two teamed up for a bit… By the pic, the mold looks rather soft

I just looked at a Hasegawa and Academy 38 and the over all detailing is very good so now I am starting to wonder…

Hey Max,

Maybe I missed something, when did Hobbycraft put out a 38? MMmmm… Maybe Academy?

It’s the Academy kit. Full retail in the UK is £26, though you can find it disounted to £22-ish without too much effort:

You can get the Academy kit, in an Academy box, for £16:

Cheers,

Chris.

If you mean 1/72nd scale kit, it is a Dragon repack.

There will be some difficulties during assembly, as with all Dragon kits.

Thank you very much Chris for the update!! Yay I totally agree with you, I can get the Academy 38 for $25…

Can not believe how they jacked the price up… That’s why I started to think that it was Hasegawa’s re boxed…

Thanks again!

OK, the Revell/Monogram, Academy & Hasegawa kits are all different. The minicraft kit is none of the above either, it appears to be new [though looks very ICM-ish] …

Has anyone actually bought the Italeri kit? can they take a snap of a few sprues? then we’ll be able to tell.

UPDATE: Never mind - mystery solved, it is definately the minicraft kit, see: http://www.jadarhobby.pl/italeri-2681-p38f5e-lightning-p-18184.html

I got my crafts mixed up. Minicraft is the manufacturer. We opened the box up at work and the boss was pissed LOL!!!

ha! yea I do that too, though I wish it were hobbycraft - some of that stuff is really good, they have a nice sea fury for example…

[though some of it is also the worst I’ve seen - an arado 234 comes to mind… ]
