I bought this kit some time ago and when I assembled it, it had this odd layout with the top of the fuselage molded in two pieces, with the seam just in front of the wing roots, and back a bit from the cockpit. Even with filling the seam, and re scribing the panel lines, I was disappointed by the fact that the areas on each side of the seam had a low valley or sunken area, and it was very noticeable. I shelved the kit and found Revell of Germany’s kit instead.
If I decided to one day salvage this kit, I’m not sure the best way to deal with it. Don’t know about whether it might be possible to putty the entire area and how well it works to re-scribe what would then be mostly putty. Any suggestions? This is a very low priority project as I am a long way from finishing the RoG kit…not to mention the Intruder…and the F-16…and the Super Hornets…the Apache…etc.
IMHO it’s not worthy to spend your precious time on a lousy model if you already have a better one. Unless you want to prove that you can make a jewel out of junk or do an experiment with it I don’t think it’s worthy.
I just hate wasting a kit that otherwise seemed to be somewhat decent. Maybe it’s just something to mess with when I’m waiting for parts to dry or something.
I had this same problem with Tamiya’s supposedly excellent 1/48 F-16CJ kit. Yes, it’s got great detail, but that d#$n fuselage joint seam was impossible to eliminate and I now have a “ring” about my fuselage. Oh, well…it’s not as if there is a better 1/48 F-16 kit out there, and it does look great on the shelf as long as you don’t look at it from the wrong angle.
