Imagine getting a medal for surviving the Winter in Russia. That should say something about combat on the Eastern Front.
Looks great. I built that puppy a while back and it is a fun kit.
Really nice work, espins, I like the overall look. I built this exact tank in Ernst Barkmann’s colors and Number424. I used the same kit-included zimmerit, but took each piece and sanded them aggressively down to almost nothing by stapling several pieces of varying degrees of sandpaper onto a board and then taping the zimm pieces to another board and rubbing the two together until the zimm was almost paper thin—they looked GREAT on the model, and could even be “chipped” off. [:D]A word about the tracks; I NEVER use Italeri’s HORRIBLE EXCUSE for tracks! [banghead]I used the ones from a Tamiya kit (possibly the early G?) and then purchased the Tamiya aftermarket indy-link set for that model. I didn’t use the zimm on the skirts, and I think the kit rocks completely. I REALLY wish that more manufacturers would include or even mold a complete kit with zimmerit! There are enough Panthers and Tigers w/o zimm, if they’re gonna keep making them, they might as well try one with zimm, like in their 1/72 scale![sigh]
Now, now…we wouldn’t want to put the aftermarketers out of business. [;)] I think any German tank with a quality molded zimmerit would be most welcome by the armor community.
Nice build, Scott. I especially like your étagère (Wife Word for “display case”).
Steve
Thanks again for the feedback gentlemen.
My wife and I picked up that display case from IKEA for only $65! It took all of about 5 minutes to put together. My only regret is not having picked up 2 more… as this case is almost full. [:O]
Ideally I’d like to find a similar case but one that is maybe 2 to 3 times wider. At the rate I’m going I’m going to have at least 10 more finished kits this year. [:D]
[:D]-- hey scott what a super nice job,man-! I have followed it from beginning to end.-- i really enjoyed reading the synopsis at the conclusion-- it puts a first class ending on a first class build[tup][tup]— tread[:P]
