It pays to stop at garage sales!

I had a very lucky find on my way to school this morning. A lady down the street from me was setting up for a garage sale, and she was selling her late husband’s model collection of over 800 kits of all genres for five dollars each. Her husband built plastic, resin, and wood. I asked if she had considered selling them on eBay, where she could probably make a lot more money, but she said that she just wanted to get rid of them. So, I bought the following kits for a total of $25.00:

HMS Sovereign of the Seas by Mantua

HMS Vanguard by Model Expo

HMS Prince by Amati

HMS Agamemnon by JoTika/Caldercraft

HMS Diana by JoTika/Caldercraft

I couldn’t believe my luck! I offered her more money, but she would not take it.

Let me know next time you go out, I’ll wire you money.Nice Haul.

Yes go by again this afternoon and pm me!

Wow… That is incredible.

Very gallant of you to suggest eBay ,and then offer more money. I would have been tempted to offer her a grand for the entire lot, keep what I wanted and sell the rest Mike

Believe me. I even offered to sell the entire lot on eBay for her, but she declined my offer. Anyway, I did swing by after work today; she had already sold out. It seems that word quickly got out.

Great find!

Great find, I’ve not been so lucky as that my problem is trying to get rid of my two Heller 1.00 scale sailing ships the HMS Victory kit # 80897 and the Le Soleil Royal # 80899. I bought these two kits some years when living in a larger house but after retiring we moved into a smaller house where there just isn’t any room for these models. I tried all he limited hobby stores around Portland Oregon but after several months of looking I haven’t been able to sell them, I got ripped off some years by ebay and I’d rather do a face to face sale any ideas ? thanks. Karl

Wow…you really took her to the cleaners!

Starduster,

What would you like for them?

Bill

Yes, I picked up several old wood kits at garage sales. The neat thing about wood kits is that much of the kits were basically stock wood, and if any pieces are missing they can be easily replaced.

I’m thinking $ 85.00 each.

Those are reasonable prices. I will consider it.

Bill

Thank you. Karl
