Hello all I’m here to day to show off my Academy Merkava Mk.III Conversion. As some of you the followed my work in the IDF GB saw I started with a basic Academy Merkava 3 kit. I used a lot of Evergreen sheet styrene to convert this basic tank in the the Baz/Dor Dalet variant.

This build started out from a news brod cast and some pushing of a girl friend. Any way it this project had it ups and downs but I must say if I had it all to do over again. “I would”. Here’s some more shots.

Thanks “disastermaster” and “INDY” for your comments guys. I worked on that project for 3 years. So seeing your excitement over my work fells my hart guys., an makes this build well worth all the hard work that went in to it. Here’s some more photos and the Secend place award I got for it at the 2010 Tiger Fest in Louisiana.
Looks very nice! The only think I’d recommend is, instead of using those decals, just make a 1:1 photocopy of them (while they’re still on the paper [unused]) and cut them put with an exacto knife, so you can just stencil them onto the rough surface. That’s what I have always done. Then they’ll blend perfectly witht he washes/pigments on the rest of the model.
It looks fantastic, though!
I know you all may ask how did I get Secend place with this tank.
An my answer is I won First with this Munitionsschlepper. The category was for Scratchbuilds and conversions.
Guy’s I must tell you at shows trying to tell folks and wrighting down what you have scratchbuilt, some times that will not get the judges attention. By placeing photos of your scratch work next to the model works. This was tole to me by a BRSM member and friend named David Campbell.
This will work really well in automotive under Customs. An way my next big IDF project will me the Merkava IV (4) Heavy APC. Now I will have to do a lot of scratch work and I don’t want to take up to much space and time here on FSF so I will post a link to my work on Sprubender. I must let you all that have dial up you may have to skip the first page as it is full of photos. When I first came to Spruebender I would just post photos after photo with out thinking how they would slow some ones PC down. Now I only post 4 to 5 photos per post. Oh and guys I for got I was to start work on D9-Cat. Oh well I guess I’ll be working on the D9 and the Heavy APC at the same time. Well when I start on eather I’ll post my start here in the Armor section.

I’ve gotta hand it to you; this is VERY nice. I can understand why it took 3 years… and the result is WELL worth the effort.

Thanks guys as I had a strong love for Israeli armor to start with but when it came to building this tank I had a lot of research to do on this tank before I got started. Well some times /scratch that My wantes came in to it a lot of the time. WelI I would see some items on one of the tanks in my photo search, that i liked and I just had to have it. Then I would have to start a new search on it, it’s history,find clear photos of what ever it was before I would add it. Well I feel a bit lost now after all that I just had to take a brake for working on any thing.
Right now I’m trying to get back to work on a WWII Scratchbuilt Panzerwerfer 42. The good thing is I don’t need to do any research on it to finish it. Let’s hope when I start on the D9-Cat and the Heavy APC I will not take as long to do those IDF Armor projects.

hey white R34 sweet build!! you really brought out that kit. are the chains off the back of the tank from the kit is it out of a resin kit?

Nop there not from the Acadmey kit and Yep there for a Legend Chain & Ball kit. I don’t know why they don’t have it as a Ball & Chain kit, it sounds better that way. Oh and here’s some info fo you guys about the rear baskets there Mk. II baskets. This add on is not something I came up with on my own. Here a photo of the real 1:1 tank. That photo is what gave me the idea of adding them. When you use the legend kits chains right you will have a lot left over, both balls and chains. So I thought why not build them. I’m glad and I see you guys love it as much as me.
I’ll try to do this same level of work on my next project.[;)]

I ave to sak though–I thought that you specifically COULD NOT put photos of models in-progress on the tables next to your model? I seem to remember that in IPMS rules it stated that this was a no-no?
Of course, your contest probably wasn’t an IPMS< was it? Sorry, I missed the name of it as I’m writing this?
This build is AMAZING.
I know at AMPS style events (AMPSEast) you are encouraged to have photos of your WIP - it can actually up your score… Maybe his event was an AMPS style?

Thanks dupes that means a lot and to all you other guys thanks as well, I really worked my but off on this project. An now I feel burned out. I’m working on a new badge for the next IDF GB and I’m just hitting a wall. I put a lot of builds on hold to get that tank done this year an I think I my have burned out some bran cells.
I sit here at my work desk and look up and this tank as well as othere’s and then look down at what’s in front of my and I just don’t want to do any thing. How can I motivate my self to get back to work, let alone a new project. MAN I feel so lazy right now. You know as I see it I’m my own boss and I want to fire my self. [*-)] I want to start this next IDF GB later to day and as soon as I get this badge done I’m going to start the new post int eh group build section. So good after noon to you all and I’m getting back to work. [:P]
Yep the show I was at was an IPMS event but I don’t see and thing about no laying progress photos next to work. In there rules section for that show. An can’t find any thin on it at the IPMS site. Hay Teh doog can you post a link to those rules. An are the rules for the UK the same as the rules for the US. Would this informantion be in the 2002 IPMS/USA Competition Handbook? http://www.ipmsusa.org/MemberServices/memberservices.htm
