Hello All,
I’m having a brain freeze at this moment!! Can someone tell me what the metal sheets with holes are called? They used to make runways with in W.W.II
PSP – Perforated Steel Plate
It was known as PSP ( pierced steel planking ) or Marsten matting.
Marsden mat (steel landing mat). Nobody enjoyed laying Marsden matting. http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/usarmy/808eab.htm
Oops! Sorry for the bad spelling.
Especially when you consider that each piece weighed about 65 pounds. But it’s one of the unsung heroes of WWII.
Thanks for the info everyone!!!
Marston matting makes great fences, though. I spent a couple years of my Border Patrol career building border fences out of it in San Diego.

it was used a lot during vietnam from anything from copter landing pads to an extra line of protection around air base bunkers, temporary vehicle parking spots, to a bridge over drainage ditches. You can still see it occasionally of construction vehicles around here.
You can get photoetch versions in 1:48 and 1:87 scales from Hauler http://www.hauler.cz/
You can also get this stuff in a plastic form from Eduard. It is a 9 1/4" x 6 1/2" rectangle that all you need to do is paint and you have an instant display base for aircraft. What I have is in 1/48 scale.
