Did a little today with weathering, this is the base of it since I still am going to throw some textured looking mud to it later on. I have never really paid attention to the undersides of my builds, something I am trying to remedy with this one. So does this look something like it should? I am wanting to get it looking like it has seen some heavy usage. Call it like it is now, I can handle the truth!
Coming along nicely Chris … I think you’re doing fine. Just remember, these beasts did a lot of off roading, so anything that sticks down from the frame is going to get quite scratched and beaten.
[#ditto] Looks great from here, if you got one get out the moto tool and start denting the crap outta everything that is still straight.[}:)] Those baby’s took one heck a beating on the underside. The mud will look right at home under there.
Thanks guys. I was thinking about banging up the tool box some as well as the fender wells. No moto tool just some subtle application of heat though. I did get some black oil paint to use for grease on the 5th wheel and thought about putting some around joints in the axles and places like that, would that be something that would have happened as well?
looks good Chris!
just wanna comment if it’s ok with u.
check the alignment of the front axles. i had a problem with my unimog when i put the wheels, they are pointing away from each other so i end up breaking the tie-rod, cutting some sprues and gluing it to the tie-rod end so that it would align.
really looks dirty…but dirty is very good! he he he [^][tup]
Gary - yea I noticed that about the axles. Part of the problem is some glue found its way to the wrong place. Not sure ow i’m going to go about fixin that yet without breaking something. Seems to always happen to me in a fragile area. Somehow the sway bar still fit perfect though.
i’m sure it won’t be a problem for you Chris!
i hate it when glue suddenly splurts on the model and on my fingers.
then i got my models with my thumbmarks that is so hard to remove. [tup]
I like it alot, like has been said those things were not exactly well maintained. They got beaten an scratched up bad. But besides that I love the weathering allready!
Chris, I like it. Whatever it is. I must have missed that in an earlier post. It looks like a fascinating piece of hardware! Don’t for get to put a little rust, steel or silver in those scratches and dings your going to do. But I’m sure you won’t. You do such a great job with all your models. No wonder you’ve inspired Mrs Lizard to join you.
Looking good Chris. Leaky axle/transfer case/transmission seals would probably be common so a little oil stain would be appropriate, also at the fill and drain plugs.
