Is there an acronym list?

Like yardbird I don’t underdstand the newer ones, my advise is if you don’t understand one, please ask, most people will explain it to you. You could also e-mail that person and ask.

You must be a specialist. All they know how to do is clear a write up by CND (Could Not Duplicate). [swg] They aren’t called stick actuators any more. They are called Aero Space Weapons Delivery Platform System Operators. [;)]

I am not trying to start an argument here but, why not do it right the first time and avoid explaining it seventeen times to people who have no clue as to what it means? It should not take more than a few seconds to type the whole phrase out before starting to use the acronym. Lets face the facts. There are people here who have no military experience and are interested in what is being said and would like to know what is being said. (Or am I the only one and being too anal?) It kinda takes the fun out of this forum if there is a “good ole boys club” that only know what is being said. Sorry to say this but as in life sometimes things should be dumbed down here for EVERYONE to enjoy.

Not trying to argue either and maybe we should answer better, but all I am trying to say is if you don’t understand something, please ask. I know I am willing to answer and so are many others.

Grandadjohn check your PM please.

Acronyms are a part of everyday life now. You see them used on TV and in the news papers. Terms like SVU, CSI, NCIS, DA, JAG, HLS or FBI is just an example. The first time someone on this forum asked me to check my PM, I had no idea what he was talking about. To me, PM was a period of time from afternoon to midnight. He posted again and asked if I had received the PM and I had to ask him what was he talking about. I grew up in the dark ages before computers, so I didn’t under stand a lot of computer lingo.

There are some acronyms that we just assume every one knows. When I talk about AB nozzels, I just assume that everyone knows that AB stands for afterburner. The British call it Reheat. LDG (Landing Gear) is called Under Carrage by some countries. Maybe every one doesn’t under stand all the terms used today. For me using ECM Pod, in place of Electronic Counter Measure Pod is not meant to confuse someone. I am going on the assumption that every one knows what it stands for. When I am using a term, relevant to a specific subject, I try to type out the full words. Some times I forget. I am only human and have and will continue to make mistakes.

We are not a “good ole boys club” but more like a family. We joke around and kid each other at times. You will also see that there are members that will send parts or other items to members to help out in a project. They are also there to offer support in times of need. Some of the best friends I have now, are on this forum, and none of them have I seen in person.

If my little test I posted in this topic set you off, than I am sorry. Members have a tendency to do that but it is all in fun.

Nicely put, Berny.

Frankly, if I don’t know what something means, I go look it up.
