Is the etch-mate worthwhile?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has found the etch-mate pe folding tool worthwhile given the cost (i.e. $79.00 Canadian)? I’m considering buying myself one for Christmas - ho, ho, ho! - since my wife would have no idea what it is that I’m asking for. I would like to try to tackle more pe with my kits. Any ideas?

The price is high but if you’re going to use alot of PE it’s well worth the money. I have one and never regretted the expense.

Would it be possible to make something similar? If you got a couple pieces of aluminum, one for the base and the other for the break, it seems like it might be cheaper and more versitale? [2c]

P.S. Don’t let your wives see this, or they will be thinking “hey, that would be cheaper” [:D]

my wife just bought me one for my birthday and its the best tool anyones ever bought me and i dont use it that much yet :slight_smile:

Im really thinking about getting one. I really have been getting into a lot PE and its becoming a pain in the rear folding some of these pieces.

I have the etch-mate & would not be without it. When i first started i used diffrent tools which worked on somr of the smaller pieces that only needed one or two folds.

But when i got to the larger parts like the frames around the windscreen that is where i wished i had a tool that folded the longer lengths.

I was given by a friend another PE tool as he could not get on with it,but i could not seem to get it to line up & it moved when you tightend it up.

So i tried the etch-mate & as i said have had any problems with it,also the etch-mate has a groove on the base which helps you lineup where the PE part is to be folded.

__It is a lot of money to pay out but well worth it i think & the size it is`nt to big also well put together. hope this helps you a bit, but see what others say & make your own mind up or try this site it may help.__http://www.ww2modelmaker.com/articlepub/Pefoldart.htm

AGAIN please stop this YODA you know this IS a VERY OLD review. And thus I know your INTENT after other posts on the subject. If you have a preferance based on using your tool fine, but go mess about elsware if ALL you wish to do is misinform. Games game games, sick of them.
