Just a quick question…I’m thinking of getting an Aztek airbrush…is it worth the money to get?..i’m currently using a Badger 150, I like it, just wanted to try something new…thnx

If you look down this forum a little there is a topic on the Aztek Airbrush. It does not sound like it is a favorable system. Why are you looking for something different?

Aztec is useless in my opinion. Nothing worse than painting a model and that P.O.S “spits” some paint all over my nice work!!! Dump the Aztec! Just my opinion of course.

I think one of those small spray bottles for water with some paint in it would do a better job than an Aztek and you can get them for about $1. Haha [:D]
Seriously though, I would recommend as I always do, an Omni, Eclipse, Anthem, Vega, or 360. These are all fine airbrushes.

Thanks for all the input peoples,I’m not having any problems with the Badger,but to be honest, I was just look for an airbrush that was easy to clean up. Don’t get me wrong, the badger is great, it just seems that at times i spend more time cleaning it than painting itself! lol again, thanx…
In short, that would be a NO.
Eclipse. I’ve used a lot and it’s the easiest to use and clean and performs great with a small learning curve. The gravity feed cup is easier to clean than the one on my Badger 100LG.

I have switched from a Badger 150 to an Aztec and have been very pleased. I am very meticulous in cleaning after use but still seemed to be continually having blockage or distorted spray patterns (no, the tip is not bent) with the Badger.
I have, once, had an Aztec tip plug up on me but an overnight soak in Cutex nail polish remover has made it good as new.
Obviously, most of the main line brushes are good…it’s just what works for you.

well, i will put myself in the minority and say that i have no complaints w/ my Aztek. have been using it for about a year now, mostly w/ Tamiya Acrylics.
easy set up, easy color change, easy clean up.
is it the best tool for every airbrushing job?
no.
but i do mostly 1/48 and larger aircraft and 1/24 autos.
i do not need to paint very narrow lines for camo (so far anyway),
so i have not run into a situation where the brush was the problem.
(now and then the nitwit who masks my planes before i paint them let’s me down) 
it is the only brush i have owned or even used, so maybe i just don’t know any better.
but i am satisfied.
maybe the day will come when i will need a ‘better’ one.
but it looks like it will be a while before i grow out of this one.

Man, if you’re satisfied with it, don’t change it unless you have to. I think the reason that most people here switched was because they were not satisfied with it. If the Aztek had worked for me, I’d still be with it for sure. I’m glad it’s working out for you, maybe it’s that you use acrylics and I’m an enamel guy, who can say. Either way, if you’re satisfied with what you’re using, you’d be a fool to spend more money just to switch. Glad it’s working out for you.

I got an Eclipse…love it but haven’t been using it that much…spending more time browsing thru here than pushin’ paint and sniffin’ fumes lately…gonna have to do something about that![:D]

Maybe I’m in the minority to but I like my Aztek. Of course this is my first and only airbrush. I find it extremely easy to clean and it seldom clogs. I use windshield wiper fluid to dilute my acrylic paints and all I do to clean them is spray the same windshield fluid through it at full strength. if i give it heavy use I might soak the spray tip overnight. I’ve been tempted to buy a Badger or some other brand just to see if I’m missing something. Maybe as my skill increases the Aztek won’t be enough but so far my models are looking pretty good so I’m satisfied.

Well, I haven’t quite worn it out yet, but I do try to paint every day. The more I use it, the more I like it also. I find that I’ve got a much better feel for the paint than I ever did before. I’ve been wanting to get an eclipse or a micron to start doing some airbrush illustration, but I haven’t saved up the money for that just yet. I’m trying to get my f-18 finished up, and getting close, but the thing that I’m learning the most on is a Polar Lights batmobile kit. It’s taken me a couple of tries (read, I’ve stripped it a couple of times and started over ) to learn to get a good, thin gloss coat down. At this point, it’s beginning to look pretty good and I feel like I’m much better at airbrushing that I was a month ago. I do really love this thing though, cleanup is a breeze, and it lays down a beautiful coat of paint. Hurrah for Iwata!
