In another forum thread (/forums/t/130830.aspx) it was mentioned that since after WW2, the star on the top of US Army vehicles should point to the front of the vehicle, not the back.
I searched for images online and found one that wasn’t of a model or a restored vehicle (either of which could easily be incorrect). To avoid copyright issues, I didn’t grab the picture, but you can see it here: http://www.olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_m809.php, second picture down.
But it is a truck, and the star is on the hood, which is on top. My questions is, is the front slope of a tank considered “top” or “front”?
The M60 tank I made for my father was according to his memory of what the markings would be. He didn’t say anything when I gave it to him, and he isn’t around to ask anymore. I haven’t been able to find any “real” pictures of an M60 with a star.
From this angle, it looks like the “top”, in which case the star is backwards:

But from this angle, it looks like the front (how would you be able to see the “top” when looking up from the ground?):
So, did I get it wrong, or luck out and it is correct?
