Clear off the bench, what we call clean everybody else calls a pig sty.
Putt the paints back into that container and call in “IN ORDER”.
Clean the tools and check the knives for the state of the blades.
Start on the new project, slapping ourselves on the shoulder with our impression of a pristine workspace.
And finally end up working on an area the size of a postage stamp, surrounded by all the CRAP we decided to put away neatly before starting the new project.
I know this is usually one asked by Manny, but I thought of asking myself. Mainly because I’m in the above mentioned state myself at the moment.
thanks for reading, I really just posted out of Jest, because I think all modellers are the same.
I omitt steps 1 trough 3 start a new project without worrying about that pristine workspace. But I have to admit that I have the space of 2 postage stamps as work area.
I have to reset (can’t really call it reorganized) the work bench after each build is done and before I start the next one. Even though it becomes extremely cluttered in the process of building, it’s an organized chaos where paint and tools are called up only when needed and I know where they are when the time comes. There’s a certain “closure” quality to organizing everything back before starting the next project…usually because the desk will stay that way for up to a full week since I build mostly on the weekends. [;)]
I don’t tend to keep my workbench pristine per say, as this is not my nature. But with an 8 year old son w/ autism. I have long been putting things either out of reach or now I lock the Lethal Stuff up. (i.e. super glues, weld on 3, paints except Tamiya Acrylics)
At the end of each diorama project I check into the Four Seasons, and order the following from room-service: one cigarette, one match and a bottle of champagne’…
Ditto and then some. Like what we build we are all different. Reset and Closure are good words Bill. I tend to be Anal…I will put everything back in its place. I will dust the bench, vac the floor and empty the garbage pail. OK…everything is perfect for a day or so. Then…we open a new box and begin again.

That is me to a tee. Now the question… To what length do you attempt to"reset’ in the middle of a project? Does it get so bad you just gotta do somethin’? For me…all tools get pushed to the right. Anything not a tool get pushed to the back. That lasts about 4 minutes.[:D]
I have to keep it tidy I like things in order so much so Iam forever rearanging ,things like that would be good over there and that would be good over here. It’s a wonder I finnish a model at all.
