Is Great Models really that slow?

I saw a post over on the ARC forum about Great Models taking upwards of 4-6 weeks to get an order to a customer. Is that true?
If so then I think I will cancel my order and go elsewhere. [V]

Mike

Very rare unless it was a special order. I have been using GM for several years and the only time it ever took a while was for a special order and that delay was specified up front. Many times people fail to read the stock status or do not have the patience to wait for it. I would not be worried about buying from GM.

Thanks Matt.

I ordered one of the Revell Germany 1/48 F-16 Tiger Meet kits the other day and was curious as to how long it would take to get here.

Mike

The one time I ordered from them, it took a good month to reach me, but I was ordering way in advance of need, and so it wasn’t an issue. I didn’t look to see if the items were in stock first though, as I wasn’t in any rush. The actual shipping only took a couple of days based on the postmark and day I received the order. The price was right and they were the only place I could find to get the stuff that I ordered though. All in all, I’d say that I had a good experience with them.

I’ve been ordering from them for some time now with no problems whatsoever. Service has been timely, no delays noted for regularly stocked items.

Thanks everyone.

From my order’s status I think they are out of stock for this model so if that is true then am going to get the Tamiya P-47 instead. [:D] [;)]

I havn’t had any problems with GM until the last 6 months. First was a P36 that was out of stock although the website said it was, and they held the rest of my order waiting for the P-36 to arrive. They said they couldn’t ship my PE set because it didn’t meet the $10 min. So I ordered something else and it wasn’t physically in inventory, but I was told it would be in a few days. So I waited, and a week later, called again and said that it will be delayed. So I tell them to ship just my PE set because I really need it bad for a commission I was building, and again I was told it dodn’t meet the $10 min, so I asked to speak with the owner and told him to SHIP my order or else I’m quitting my business with him, so he shipped my $6.99 PE set. But what a hassle that was.

Now in March I ordered a B-26 for another commission, and again, I’m getting the dog and poney show from them. I called Squadron and they said they physically have it in stock and I can have it in 10 days. So, if GM cannot get this order to me within a timely manner, I may switch to Squadron.

I dont’ no what is goining on over there, but I really always had GREAT service and priceing from GM. I like their website far better that Squadron. It in the past there was always friendly people to call. these last coouple of times, I had a lady that was really in a bad mood and a guy that sounded and acted like he just woke up.

They can be pretty good-- they did recently incorporate into their search a feature that allows you to view “In Stock” items only-- since then, I know how long it’ll take-- if they have it in stock, you get it quick…if they don’t and I want it soon- I go elsewhere…

i use greatmodels they normally deliver to the uk in 4 days

Smooth sailing for me!

Mike,

I have had good luck with them also. You can request a shipment of in stock items immediately. Back orders do take time.

Richard

Great Models has always given me outstanding service. I appreciate their commitment to customer service and typically receive my orders in under 2 weeks. I have discontinued ordering from Squadron because of POOR SERVICE, INCOMPLETE SHIPMENTS FOLLOWING EXTENSIVE A WAITING PERIOD, OR NO SHIPMENT AT ALL WITHOUT AN EXPLANATION. If you are ever in the vicinity of Hartford, Conn. stop at WAR and PIECES. This model shop has a great selection and wonderful folks working there.

I’m with scott on this one.

I recently ordered two F-104’s of different makes and a couple other things. Both were showing as in stock. I waited and waited, and finally checked my order status to find that the only thing in stock was one of the 104’s, but it was less than the $10.00 minimum, so I then added some more stuff to the order. Still waiting. I sent them an email suggesting that they at least notify us if this sort of thing happens. Haven’t heard from them.

I always choose the more expensive FedEx shipping to make sure I get my order sooner. That’s providing they even send it!

I agree that their website is better than Squadrons, though. I guess we just have to put up with a few inconveniences in the meantime, but it doesn’t seem to me that it would be that hard for them to make a few improvements.

Then again, that’s just my opinion,

stinger

Well, I’ve only ordered from them twice and, on both orders I had items showing in stock. After the order went thru, it showed items out of stock. I don’t mind waiting for things I order, but I don’t like being told something is in stock and as soon as I hit the submit button, it’s suddenly out of stock.

I hope it isnt that slow cause like you Mike I am getting ready to order that kit and the new hasegawa Tiger Meet '03 kit plus some after market stuff for them.

I received this note from them today:

“As per your email: A reissue item can take 4-8 business days to get in…
This is with a 50/50 chance of getting one at all. If you go to our website
and go to the search engine… Type in F-16A Tiger Meet and there is several
different items to choose from.”

So I asked them if I could get the Hasegawa 1/48 Tiger Meet 2003 instead as it is almost the same price. We will see what happens.

Mike

Update on my Great Models order:

After receiving that email that I posted I sent an email back to Cindy at Great Models asking if she could cancel my Revell Germany F-16 kit and instead send me the Hasegawa 1/48 F-16 Tiger Meet kit.
I received this email today:

“As per your email: I cancelled your rmg kit and ordered the Hasegawa for
you. I also put in a pull request for you and your order will ship out on
Wednesday. Thank you”

That sounds like some great service to me! [tup]

Mike

I have ordered from them and recieved my packages within a week.

Dan

That’s funny 'cause it’s the exact opposite with me…about 75% of the time GM is a big gamble for me, and I’m with Stinger…I order “instock” items only to find out days later they are out of stock…I’ve had things cancelled on me…I have had things come verrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy slooooowwww to me…Like someone else has said, it seems to have been only the last 6 months though…before then I was ordering from them on a regular basis…now it’s Megahobby, and Squadron for me…they are always fast, and communicative with me about any problems with the orders…and they only allow you to order (drum roll please)…“Instock Items”!!! LOL Good luck Mike…like I said sometimes they’re good…sometimes they lack…

Thanks Heath.

I usually just buy from the LHS but they had pretty good prices so I thought I would give it a shot.
