Is a model ever "DONE"??

I just pulled down a model that I had hanging from the ceiling. I built it about 2 years ago and hand painted it. Now as I look at it, it needs more work. After I get it cleaned good, I will Future it, wash it and put a flat clear on it. Oh, and the canopy needs paint.

What do you think?

Do any of you go back and look at some of your older models and improve on them?

This just showed me how much I have learned about this fine art.

Thanks, in advance, for your comments. Oh, it is a 1/48 Spit V in Desert conditions. The paints are MM acrylics.

I frequently go back and look closely at my “done” models, but I very rarely redo any of them. I look at the old ones from a critical viewpoint so that I can see where I can improve for the next one.

I’ve never done any additional work on older completed models other than cleaning & occassional minor repairs.

Looks great to me. I do suffer from the “shoulda woulda coulda” syndrome sometimes however. Keep up the good work.

Once she’s done, she’s done. I do go back and make mental notes of how to do things different on future builds, but once I declare it done…

Thanks all,

I think that I will just give it a future coat, a dark wash to accent the panel lines and then a clear flat coat and then… CALL IT DONE. lol

Kurt

well im about to redo several star wars models. but other than that once their done thats it

The only time I really go back and do anything to my completed kits is when I’ve moved and I have to repair them before they go back on the shelves. I like to compare what I’ve done in the past with what I’ve recently finished. See the progression in my skills, so to speak (if there is any).

I had a bunch of models in boxes that I went back and re did. Some of these models were pushing 20yrs. and I used them to practice the new skills I have learned in the past 5yrs. Others have been taken into Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory and come out different creatures,as many of you know.[:D] I found that working to improve my skills on older models, that when I spend the money to get a decent kit, there’s no experimentation that needs to be done.

To All,

Thanks for your replies. Now if I can only keep from wanting to improve on the older kits. Must keep hands off…

Nice “re-do” Kurt! [:)] Now get a thin brush and paint the canopy frame. [:-^]

That’s how I think too, well said! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

She definately looks salvageable!
I just feel for the poor pilot who’s been trapped in a holding pattern near your ceiling for the last few years. I bet he’s happy to stretch his legs…

I leave my models alone after they are finished, that way I can see my progress as a modeller. I think your model looks good.
Cheers,
Eric

I go back and look at them, so I can see my progression. I then pull the worst off the shelf and make room for the better looking/higher detailed models. There is defiently some progression in my building.

That’s a fine looking spitfie,Missle it should be even better after you make the improvements you mentioned.Sometimes I will look at a model that I did years ago and find aereas that could use some improvement.I will usually build a different version of the same aircraft and incorporate any new techniques or details that I have learned in the interim. Then I will modify the older model to match.Keep up the good work!

To all, Thanks for the nice comments.

I will post pictures after I have made the small improvements.
