Folks, i thought about posting this in off-topic, but then i decided that i would put it here…
i was at the news stand and for some reason (call it intuition, maybe ?) i bought a copy of this comic which i haven’t looked at for awhile.
inside there’s some interesting stuff, including some discussion about the morality of designing and building weapons systems and other military hardware and a little sequence that features some WWII era tank action… kind of weird synchronicity considering some of the recent discussion like " Why German Armor "and “Moral High Ground” threads .
just thought i’d mention it…
does the iron man suit count as an afv ?[;)]

Considering that Super Heroes (and as such the comic writers and illustrators) use force to counter force, I’d say if any of them question military hardware it would be like the pot calling the kettle black.
By the way, my favorite was also Iron Man… maybe it’s an armor thing.

i must admit that Shellhead was not one of my favorite Avengers in my comic buying days. It was always Cap for me. [:D]
but i have a better appreciation for Tony Stark as an adult.
not even sure where to look for comics around here.

Frosty: I don’t think good 'ol shellhead can be considered an AFV. I think APC is more suitable (BTW not Armored Personnel Carrier) - Armored Personal Costume. He-he-he.

Erush…I’m 42 and still remember reading Iron man from my younger days. I even remember the old cartoon show that was filmed like a comic strip…you know, actors spoke the script for the characters while a still picture was presented on screen and after a few seconds the picture changed. Really dramatic shots where when the camera was zoomed in, and turned slightly, onto the one shot to give the impression of movement. Each day it was a different super hero, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, etc. Ahh, those were the days[:p]
I even rember the first suit of armour Ironman had, which looked rather, err cruddy[:I]! Iron man was a ’ dark hero’ in those days, Frosty…is he still portrayed that way?
Sorry WW, Captain America didn’t do it for me. When it came to comics, I was more the Thor (something about cracking skulls with a 30lb lump hammer instead of a super frisbie), X-men (the original series where you only had Cyclops, Angel, Dr X, etc, and they wore those really awful baggy yellow and blue threads) and Ironman type person. I did have a secret leaning toward DC comic’s The Green Lantern, but that might have been because of the female character (Black Cat?) that was often drawn in them. Hey, I was a teenage boy then, give me a break[:0]

Yeah old Iron pants was a bit dark for a lot of people, so he wasn’t as popular. The link this thread has to this Forum is that there would be no Ironman if there had been no Vietnam war. Vietnam was a bit unpopular in some places [:p] so this might have had something to do with it. This also gives you a lead to how old the character is.

comics have always been used as a means of propaganda by both hawks and doves. Some glorify it, others condem it in their own way. They are a real social watermark and cultural icon and reflect societys struggle with social issues.
Not to mention they are a great form of mindless entertainment too. Remember Turok and Andar (dinosaur killing indians…)?
What was the comic book series that the storyline was a Lee tank that was haunted and the ghosts of confederate soldiers would help out the crew?

I’m chuffed that I can contribute something to a worthwhile subject.I’m 41 and I remember reading “The Haunted Tank”,with a commander who was called Jeb who used to talk to the ghost of a confederate general,except from what I recall the other crewmembers couldn’t see the ghost and they all thought their boss was a little nutty.
Then as the series rolled on they went from the Lee to a succession of different tanks,a Pershing as I recall and finally a cannibalised tank made from bits and pieces of other tanks which seemed capable of annihilating anything the Germans [and Japanese] could throw at it.It was a good comic.How about “Sergeant Rock”? Does anyone remember that?

Iron Man was indeed my favorite of the Marvel crowd (In the cartoons that Petbat referred to, the voice of Iron Man was that of John Vernon, better known as dean Wormer in Animal House. Some of these cartoons were released on VHS a few years back and I grabbed the Iron Man issue. Wish I’d gotten the others) My favorite Marvel villain was another man in an iron mask: Dr Doom.

I thought about this last night on my way home from work (believe it or not) and if I had to hang out with any super heroes, I think I’d choose ‘Super Girl’. Iron MAN, bat MAN, super MAN, Captain America… Man(?) would come in a distant forth behind Bat Girl and Wonder Woman.

Iron man was cool, Red and yellow armor. I think he had a TV show as well. Only thing is, Ozzie and Black Sabbath stole a little thunder from the marvel comics.

The Haunted Tank! Yeah, the commander used to chat with Jeb Stuart, who alway gave him all sorts of sage advise. When I was a kid, I dreamed of having one of those wierd helmets with the doughnut pad on it and now I have two in my collection! I like the way the tanks always got their main guns bent up when they were knocked out.

haunted tank… yeah those were the days. I was also a big fan of Sgt. Rock. I used to get, Sgt. Rock, Turok & Andar, and usually one other from my grandmother every release date…who ever ordered army men out of the back, or one of those submarines you could sit in?
