Iraqi paints or lack thereof

I’m intending to build an OEF diorama. For an abandoned RG T-72 I’ve noticed that Iraqi desert paint schemes are usually seen flaking off randomly revealing the original Russian tank green underneath. My question is, what would be a good method to replicate this flaking off effect? I await your response(s) Ed Davis

Paint the base color Rusian Green. Now get some rubber cement or liquid mask. Coat small areas to look like chipped paint. Spray with the sand outer color. Once dry, peal away the rubbercement/maks and you will ahve chipped areas. Another method is just the opposite. Paint sand, then come in and paint the chips in green. blend the edges some to make the green look underneath the sand. You can acceent this further, either method, by taking a #2 pencil and drawing in bare metal on edges and high traffic areas as well. Once belnded together with weathering, it look sgreat.

Good luck.

Another way to simulate chipped paint is by painting your base coat then put some future polish on it then sprinkle salt on the polish before it dries then after it dries paint you sand color after that dries you should be able to gently brush the sald off and it looks like instant sand chipped paint
