Two very clean builds. Those stripes are very well done.

Nice job on both, nicholas !
Glad to see someone else who likes 'em clean ! No pre-shading, no paint chipping, no exhaust stains. YES ! I like them !
Which kits are they?
Well done !
hi Pix
the spit is academy’s much maligned affair, but a nice build.
the Typhoon is hasagawa, and was a real pig to build because the fuselage behind the cockpit just didn’t line up.
may be i just got a bad one i don’t know, because hassy are meant to be pretty close to shake and bake i thought?
thanks for the kind words Crockett
Very nice I do like them.
Gumiflex
very nice build look great

They look great!! You’re not alone on the Has. probs. I won’t buy them anymore.
Two nice builds. The invasion stripes are way cool.

Hey guys ! has anyone else had problems with the has. typhoon ,as i want to build it ? Peter
Fantastic job on both, Nicholas!
Regards, Dan
Very, very nice!!! Some day I’ll have the stones to try the “I” stripes. I’ve got a Tamiya Spit on the shelf and hope it comes out as good as yours. Again, good work, thanks for the look.

Great builds. I really don’t mind masking invasion stripes too much, though I don’t go out of my way to do them. Your’s are outstanding. In fact, both builds are excellent. I’ve always liked that muscular, aggressive look of the Typhoon, and it really shows up in the bottom view of yours. A good job on the wells, too. The idea that HAS kits re “shake and bake” is an obsolete one, I think. When they got that reputation 20 years ago, these kits, compared to everything else, were wonders. (See my Thud reply.) And they put out the F-4, A-7 and F-14 series in the 80s which perpetuated this. But in truth, the majority of their catalogue, especially the WW II and 1950s subjects for which CAD drawings are not available, just don’t belong in the same class with AcMin, TAM or even Academy (compare 1/48 P-38s, for example), as far as fit goes. Remember Hasegawa’s expensive, execrably screwed up attempts at 1/48 TBF and SBD’s? Utter junk.
So my belief is that they are skating on a largely undeserved reputation for quality based on a relatively few really exceptional kits released between ten and 20 years ago. But, what have they don’t for me lately, besides ask for large sums of money for poorly fitting kits with thick, inaccurate decals.
All that said, I don’t avoid them at all. I just know that it’s a gamble to buy a Hasegawa kit, and that there might be a lot of unwanted labor involved that I should not have to do at those prices.
…well, hey, somebody brought up the subject. I just by coincidence happen to be mad about it today.
Two fine models, though. After you sanded and painted all the Hasegawa off of them. So now they are not Hasegawas. They are Mayhews.

Very nice clean builds. The Invasion Stripes are very well done. The fit of the rear fuselage deck on the Typhoon can be challenging. The first one I built gave me major trouble, but the next one less so, as I knew what to expect.
