Interior colour of 1930s US aircraft

I’m currently building the Hasegawa 1/32 Boeing F4B (1930s US Navy fighter, the naval version of the
P-12). The instructions tell me to paint the cockpit and interior grey.
Is this accurate? I’d have thought Interior Green (as used in most US WW2 aircraft) would be more likely.
It’s quite an old kit (1970s or early 80s I think) which I bought second-hand, so it’s possible that the instructions
are inaccurate - Hasegawa weren’t quite so top-of-the-range for accuracy then as they are now.

Could anyone enlighten me on this subject? I need to know which colour to use before I can progress any further with the model!

try this website www.ipmsstockholm.org, they ran a article back a few months ago about interior colors of the US military aircraft pre through post WWII, and that should cover all your questions on American Aviation during WWII

Most of the pre-war aircraft had natural metal or silver lacquered interiors. I’m pretty sure the F4B was natural metal ( aluminum ), but it could have been painted in silver. On a model, doesn’t make any difference.

Thanks for your help - silver it is then!
