Interesting T-64 news from Accurate Armour

Accurate Armour focuses on Great Britain’s armoured forces, but occasionally they do other vehicles too, and recently they revealed that they were doing an update set for the Skif T-64B. I was surprised to read that, and wondered why.

Is the T-64B even in service any more? And is this kit such a good host for detailing that Accurate chose it as the base for detailing parts? What do you guys think is the deal with this?

Maybe they have a design team with nothing to do? Maybe they are broadening their horizons to do russian stuff

Highly doubtful.

AA has been talking about this detail set since last year. I hope they get it out soon. I don’t think the T-64 is still in service with the russian army but the Skif kit does need some help. Unfortunately the tracks are awful (mine are too short to fit on the model) but A/M tracks aren’t yet available.

Maybe that’s it – no one else has made update/improvement parts for the kit yet. Thanks. It’s too bad they didn’t pick something like the T-80 and give it the Accurate Armour treatment, instead of a tank that looks obscure even compared to the T-62.

The T-64 seems like an obscure subject to invest the time/money in the developement of a update set for it ,the T72/T80 would seem to be more popular subjects. But i aint no authority, and thats no understatement (thought i’d throw that in before someone else did)

The T-72/80 or T-62 updates would have made more sense, and it does seem strange that they’d dedicate effort to a fairly obscure effort, one due to the relative lack of kits, can’t possible generate that much revenue.

They come with rubber-band style tracks? I see that Skif has their own set of indy-link tracks:

The Skif indy tracks are awful as well. They are just cheap copies of their vinyl tracks. Don’t buy them unless you like a lot of cursing. [:D]
