I found this pic while searching for reference material on 7TP’s (I’ve pretty well cleaned off the web, and have gained a very simplistic knowledge of polish military terms in the process). Its a USMC Abrams in Iraq presumably. Apart from being a great dio idea, tell your version of what happened to this poor tank!
So, I was driving the tank, and then it kinda…sorta…destroyed the road.
Good pic! Reminds me of an incident here in Aus. I was a photographer covering the RAAF 75th Anniversary Airshow at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia, on a hot, dusty afternoon some ten years ago. Before the flying display there was a demonstration of ground equioment and the Army showed off its M113 APC. The driver tore all over the safe-zone between the audience and the airstrip, but came to an embarressing end when he dropped the vehicle into the deep, wide safety ditch, right in front of the crowd. The vehicle stayed right where it was, canted on its right side, for the rest of the day, and I’ve often wondered if the driver was up on charges over it. Probably! Still, it would have been easy getting it out of there, compared to hauling a 57-ton M1A1 out of glutinous mud. Looks like the starboard-side upper engine bay grills might still be clear so the turbine hasn’t flooded, but she’ll take a LOT of cleaning up…
its obvious, he had to swerve out of the way to avoid a camel. It was his fault though, there were plenty of “camel crossing ahead” signs along the road
That’s cool. I’m of 100% Polish heritage - my family name is “popiel”, but I don’t speak a word of it. I may want to ask you a few things down the road.
