I am not so lucky as to be within minutes of a good museum. I am about 3 hours from the Chanute museum at Rantoul, Illinois and about 6 hours from the “Big One”, USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Try being in northeast Oklahoma. One small museum of aircraft(I’m not even sure where) and the USS Batfish in Muskogee. That sub almost floated down the Arkansas River one year!Allen
Here are three about 30 minutes from me (depending on traffic)

Second to Wright-Patterson, this is my favorite museum. Keep in mind that at this place, upwards of 90% of what they have is in FLYING condition. And they have one of the only two remaining Lancasters. If you’re ever around Toronto, seriously consider checking this one out.
Plus they sell models in their giftshop. With the exchange rate, there are some good deals.
I used to live 20 minutes away from Chanute, but now it’s a three hour drive. I still like the place. They were a traning Air Force Base, so they have some old aircraft. They also have the nose section of an early B-52 that you can go inside! There’s a small mock missle-silo. Unforunatly, they only have one hanger so most of thier planes have to sit out weathering on an old runway.
A lot of the planes there are going thru restoration, so the hangar is really cramped right now. Unfortunately, the B-52 is locked as of right now.
