*Interest Probe : Winter Warriors GB*

Hey, with the first snow here in Maine over the weekend, I got to thinking (dangerous, I know [;)]) about the fact that I hadn’t done any “winter” paint schemes…ever. So I figured the easiest way to remedy that was to host a GB centered on that very subject!

Pretty easy requirements, I’m thinking Jan 1 to May 1 (snow should be gone here by then…I hope), any vehicle/wingy thing. I think that the distinction is probably greater on the armor side between the standard and winter schemes, but I know that I’ve seen some pretty interesting A/C ones. Would also be an interesting offset to the big “North Africa” build. [:P]

Got a bit of feedback on the armor forum, any interest on this side of the house[?][?]

I think that the distinction is probably greater on the armor side between the standard and winter schemes, but I know that I’ve seen some pretty interesting A/C ones.

Yeah, don’t be too sure about that. I saw a Jaguar once in a mottled white Alpine Snow scheme that was simply dazzling.

The GB sounds like fun.

I’d be interested in this GB if it gets going. I think it’s a good idea for a GB, especially since this will be my first Christmas/winter in Tucson, without snow…[sigh] Anyways, I’ll probably build a 1/48 WWII Luftwaffe or VVS plane.

So Dahut, can I put you down for a Jaguar with a crazy Alpine Snow scheme? [(-D]

Looks like there’s a good bit of interest in the armor side (especially after a name change!), finalizing the badge right now then I’ll open up a post in the GB forum. Should be good for a Jan 1 start.

Glad to see you guys are interested, tell all of your A/C forum buddies and get them in on it too, would love to get a good bunch off not-often-seen schemes in there!

Okay count me in.

Excellent idea Lycra man. Hasagawa Ju87 G complete with Panzerknackers. Russian winter scheme

Wheres me badge [:-^]

…Guy

See? Now that’s what I’m after. Great build!

Luftwoller, you up for adding a “companion piece” for the collection? [;)]

That’s a nice looking Gustav, there. I like the winter Stuka’s. Those Luftwaffe Sturm Maenner had it rough. And, I’m not alone in my admiration, it seems, as they have been done up many times over. What I’m after is a look at something a little different, a subject one might not think of. Thus the Jaguar in winter coat.

Most people see it in Euro Wrap, Barley Grey or Desert Tan, when they think of it at all. But each year the Jag squaddies head for the polar reaches of Norway or Finland for exercises. Just before leaving, they slap on a “winter coat” - a temporary winter white paint. Usually it takes a certain form, but it has been seen in varying patterns, too.

I’ll turn up a JagCat, probably in 1/72 for the build. Then we’ll have a look at something a bit off the path. So remember me as marked for that, eh?

[soapbox] But hey, wait one there! I just had a thought (yes, I have a fire extinguisher handy [:D] )Aren’t you supposed to actually make something for a group build? Thus the name, “Group BUILD.” I mean, popping in with one already on the shelf - and it’s a nice one, mind you - seems well, sort of like cheating somehow.

Oh, I’m not letting Lufty get off that easy. [;)]

Now we just know that he’s very capable…and will have to crank out another interesting scheme!

Looking forward to that Jaguar. [yeah]

Looking forward to that Jaguar.

Coincidentally, this is the last year of the SEPECAT Jaguar. They retire after 2007, after 30 years in service. We’ll call it a tribute, eh?

Mmmmm… your a hard man to please Lycra man. Was busy last night, heres my FW189a

Bit dirtier, Wheres me badge?

…Guy

Wow…that is a bit dirtier. I’m quite interested to find out how you got that finish.

Looks like you’re going to have to join the build for sure. [;)]

Alright dudes and dudettes, the Jaguar is purchased. I found one on eBay from a fellow in HK, a chap I’ve purchsaed from many times over. Good prices and fair shipping if you want to wait 7-10 days for surface. In this case, there is no hurry.

I have also gotten a good thread going on Britmodeller that has given a wealth of information on the winter shemes applied to RAF Jags.

I’m gearing up, but I still can’t believe Im considering a build in 1/72 scale.

Alright! This GB is a go, lots of participants ready to fire some white. Looking for as many as we can get - and the aircraft side is lacking a bit so far…any other takers???

Official thread is up in the Group Builds section of the forum, see all of you there! [:)]

I have a BAe Hawk 100 that I might want to do with a fictional winter scheme.
Would that fit into the build?

I don’t see why not. [8D]

Who makes it?

Airfix.

Neat! I’ll put you down.
