Hello!
Has anyone here used the Tiger I detail set below, apparently designed for Tamiya? I’ve also included a review. My questions is, are Tamiya detail sets interchangeable with other companies, say, an Academy 1/35 Tiger I early production? It looks like a great set, but I want to make sure I can use it. Generally, are detail sets and photoetched parts interchangeable between brands within the same scale? Seems like they should be. Thanks!
Most of the time they work on any model of the same kind in the same scale.Eduard makes the same kit, just for the Academy Tiger and is alittle cheaper in price. I used the Verlinden set on my Academy Tiger had no problems.
Yes most of it would be usable on an Academy model.
Aber is by far the best PE out there, but also by far the most difficult to assemble.
I am currently doing a set of Aber PE for a King Tiger. The tool clamps looks great. These actually work when done right, and they would be the same on a Tiger I. On average I used about 45 minutes per clamp, and it took me 2 days to complete all 8 of them. Here is a picture of the clamps and other Aber details from my KingTiger. I can only recommend Aber.
Thanks for the reply–yes, the Aber parts do look great, you did a nice job with them…also the Aber kit seems to have alot more to offer. Is there Interior detailing too? I have the Tiger I with interior. Or do they offer it separately? I could buy the Eduard Interior kit for the Academy model if necessary. Unfortunately, I’ve already bought an Eduard Tiger I gun barrel online–perhaps I can sell it. Eduard has a separate Academy 1/35 Tiger I Interior/Exterior photoetch set, each about $25, but that doesn’t include the gun barrel, cables, or other niceties. I’m really thinking about going with the Aber detail set, and eBaying or returning the Eduard barrel…Also a question–what does the “Ausf.E” designation mean? Is it simply an additional descriptor of the Tiger I? I am curious…thank you!
Ohh boy the “ausf” question.
Ausf is short for ausführung which means model or version. So Tiger I ausf. E means Tiger I version E. Now if only it meant that it was version 5 ( E being the 5th letter in the alphabet ) it would make sence, but infact ausf E is the second version, H1 being the first version, and latter followed the Tiger II that was ausf B.
