Maybe I’m missing something here, but in the FAQ it recommends using quotes (or parts of quotes) from a post in your response to it, but I can’t find an explanation anywhere on the website of the procedure for doing so. I’ve gotten one tip that I couldn’t make work, and still can’t find anything “official” about it on the website— which seems weird and is very frustrating.
You will see two buttons labelled “Reply” and “Quote”.
If you hit the reply button, you will create a new post starting with a blank page. However, if you hit the “quote” button, it will insert the text of this post enclosed within a “quote block” - ie. enclosed between the {quote} and {/quote} (substitute “[” and “]” for “{” and “}” ) commands, into your new post, after which you can compose your reply.
If you only wish to quote part of a previous post, then all you have to do is delete the bits you don’t want.
See This link for a list of basic BBcode instructions (note that some may not be implemented here)
Now I can’t even figure out how to reply to you. I’ve tried twice, but it doesn’t like my message for some reason. But to make a long story short I still don’t understand what I’m supposed to do after I use the quote button. I don’t understand your instructions. Sorry,
You can’t see the reply and quote button on the right side of every post??? Maybe you have a software compability problem…
After you use the quote button, a new screen appears… click somewhere after the text already included, that’s the quote, then type in what you want and post it.
You don’t have to do anything. Just hit the “quote” button instead of the reply button from the post you wish to quote, and type your response after the quoted text.
Espins1-- I think the reason my replies got rejected was because in trying to explain to Phil what I was seeing after I hit the quote button, I was re-typing the “quote user…” insertion language in my text. I got a “Non-matching quote blocks in post” message, but didn’t know what that meant, except I screwed up somehow…again.
I’ve figured out now that if I just start typing after the text (and inserted “quote” language) the entire post will be highlighted when posted. I think Phil said to select the specific portion of text I want highlighted, I have to delete all the text I don’t want(?). OK, I’ll give that a try. Boy, do I feel out-of-date and technologically challenged!
