Hello;
Does anyone recall seeing a video on panel lines. The guy was using a ink pen and then polishing off the excess with a very fine polishing stick. I thought it was at Hawkeyes site but cant find it. Maybe he will chime in on this. I thought I bookmarked it but you know how that goes.

Hawkeye did do a kick butt video.I don,t do these lines in anything with any kind of dark(black) pen though.Any panel line I wish to be noticed (car doors ,gear doors,access doors on armor) I will use a darker color than the final color then as the final color is applied they will stand out but not jumpout! I have seen some gorgeous building jobs ruined by these little black lines running everywhere. In real life look carefully.On an aircraft for instance they look ONLY like shadows.If they were as large as black lines would suggest then someone better go out and rivet that panel back in place!. tankerbuilder
I mentioned in the vid that you can use any color of marker to highlight the panel details. I have been using a gray pen from crayola lately on a camo pattern.
Also each aircraft is a different canvas…check out this image of world class modeler John Vojtech pointing out the panel details on this F-18. Those panel lines are very pronounced…again each aircraft is different and you should use appropriate references…then again its your model and you can do what you want. [;)]

In the scope of things, panel detailing is done more for the viewer, not the builder. Regardless of what you decide to do…someone will find fault in one way or another. In scale effect these lines which are less that a 1/16 of an inch wide would all but be invisible in scale. The further you are away from this aircraft…the less panel line detail you see.
