Information about 1/72 Revell B-17F

Hi guys…

Does anybody could give me a objective preview about this kit? Revell 1/72 B-17F.

Thanks

Carlos

I built a few as kid, and my recollection were that they were pretty weak on detail. For example, the “ball” turret was made as a hemispherical piece of clear plastic, withe the fuselage continuing under the turret. The same can be said of the upper turret aside from the shape of the clear part. I believe that the engines were integral with the cowlings, and the interior of the plane was pretty much non existant. On the plus side, the basic exterior shapes I think are pretty decent and I recall the fit and overall quality of moldings being pretty decent as well, So if you want it to stand up to magnifying glass scrutiny, plan on a lot of detailing. If you are happy to have a a good looking fort best viewed from two or three feet distance, it’s probably not bad.

So have you seen one then? I haven’t seen one for years and just assumed they were out of production.

Revell Germany re-issued it. I have one. Upon first glance, the shape looks accurate, and detail could be worse (rivits are a bit overstated). On the downside, there is NO interior to speak of. If you are planning on opening anything up, get ready for some scratchbuiding.

I have seen one of these built up into a decent model, so it can be done. It’ll just take a bit of work.

i have the same kit which was given to me as a hand me down from my uncle. the kit was built back in the 70s. i would say the same as with the guys about the detail of the kit. youll need a lot of scratchbuilding on it.

Now that isn’t exactly true. There is a plank for the two mummies to sit on! I have this kit and as soon as I can get enough decent references I’m going to scratchbuild the entire interior. As has been stated, except for the tennis ball sized rivets, the general shapes are accurate.

Thanks fellas…
