[:D] A big thank you to member ‘Millard’. The Imai/Ertle Chebec arrived the other day.A great way to start the new year. I was expecting it come surface in about 7 weeks but he kindly sent it Air and it took only a week and a half.
I have been lusting after this old kit for 20 odd years after I lost my first one when my marriage broke up.(hey,take the wife but leave the ship)[:)]
When Millard mentioned to big jake that he had 3 I just could not resist it. I really remember this model I think because of the detail.After years of Airfix and Heller,to see a kit with metal fittings,real cloth sails and fantastic moulding detail was a revelation.I know it is an antique and should be kept reverently in the box but no-way.This baby is going to get all the TLC 40 years of model building can give it.

OHHHH I got mine alright. I started it but am waiting to finish my model cabinet 22 ft. long, 3 ft. deep and 7 foot high, Oh baby I can finally display all of them in their glory! I’ll take some pictures and post them in my web shots album.

Anybody interested in chebecs needs to take a look at the series “Le Requin: A Navy Board Model of a Mediterranean Xebec of 1750,” by Olivier Bello, that’s been running for the past year in the magazine Ships in Scale. Part 6 is in the January/February 2005 issue, which came out last week. A really fabulous model, and the text of the articles contains lots of sophisticated techniques. The trick for making the seam lines in sails is worth the price of the seriec - though I’m not sure I’ve got the nerve to try it.
