Yes, the wood deck looks amazing. I really like the sails as well.

I’m saving the sails for last, I like Harry Houdini’s treatment, but because I’m using enamels, I need to possible change the shading effect.

Yesterday’s bench time - Got the hull setting up, deck in place along with the transom. Bamboo bundles bound and the snake trimmed out along with the eye, still need to paint the white. The hull looks strange because I have not dirtied it yet, clean on the outside, dirty on the inside. Need to do some touchups before I give it a good wash. The open stern is making me a little crazy.

Now that the hull is together, I had to remove the seam, no matter how good the model is, you’re going to have a seam. You scrape it down to level then using a Flex-I-File you sand it down to take the hard edge off. Then fill the gap with thin Tamiya modelers putty, the tape is the to keep the putty off the side, makes for an easier clean up.
The micro brush I’m using is the same ones they use in nail salons, use them once, then pitch them in the trash, you can’t clean as the bristles fall out. They come in a pack of a 100 for $7.00 at Amazon.
I did the base coat trim in for the bamboo thatch roof over the rear hatch. The SP Spanish Yellow is water based and the red color will be an enamel; this is so the two colors won’t blend much. I’ll go back and trim in the red then dry brush and wash

This morning bench time. Test fitted the sails to see the overall size and position stepped the masts temporarily - the mainmast is not bent, it’s shaped like that.
Glued in the last of the deck goodies in place.
Rigged the anchor winch.
I’ll start painting the main color sails today that should be a 4/5-day process between painting the main red coloring, sealing the paint against bleed through and them trimming in the bamboo color for the sail battens. I won’t start the rigging until after the 20th., after the IPMS Northshore model show

Great build, some interesting techniques (deck for instance) - model looks like it was built from wood!

Thank You. I gave the sails the base coat of Floquil’s Boxcar Red, I was going with Tuscan, but I wanted a slightly more faded look, the darker wash should show up more and I also figured they would us the same coloring on the 2 deck covers

Sides are washed, when the black fills the crevices, the paint seems to pop. Once you paint the water base wash in, you pat off the excess with a paper towel. I earned a bowl on this one.

Testing out the grimy effect on the painted sail battens, the grime also darkened the sail cloth to my liking. I’m going to try a dry brush a spot of sand to see if I get a more bleached effect. Depending on how the light hits the sail, in some pics it looks darker and some lighter.

Sails looking very cloth-like. In your first post you said you would airbrush the sails, is that how you did it? The wash on top works well I think.

I just airbrushed with a flat Floquil boxcar red. After it dried for 24 hours, I slopped on Floquil steam power black was 90% water 10% paint. I lightly patted dry the sections. I’m liking the darker color. I was going to use Floquil Tuscan, but I felt it was too red.

No Problem, glad to share. We got back from the Cruise Friday, and I started back on the Junk today. I was able to rig on the anchors, and I figured since I was NOT using the stern drop door, I repurposed the deck winches for the lifeboat, this really look better than just slopping rigging around the small boat. I added 2 small eyebolts for the line or tackle (I haven’t decided what I’ll rig it, either simple or with a set of small blocks. I still need to make up a whip staff/paddle. The painting on the sail reeds looks sloppy but will be trimmed up with the boxcar red and washed.
