A friend of a friend wants me to build him a Tuskegee Airmen P-51 as a commission build. He is a TA historian and knows several of the pilots. We discussed payment and he came up with something that cash can never compare to.
Next tuesday I am having lunch with Harry Stewart of the Tukegee Airmen. Lt Stewart shot down 3 109’s on Apr 1, 1945. Needless to say… Tuesday can’t get here soon enough.
WOW!!! That is a wicked awsome deal wing_nut. All I can really say is that you go ahead and have a great time![:D][wow] Maybe he can give you some references (pics, etc.) from actual aircraft.
There is no better deal than that. I did a similar one two years ago with a Me 110B. The gent I built it for was Ebo Stromeier. He was W. Messerchmitts right hand man. He was cheif engineer second only to Willy Mes… and his son-in-law. He married Willy Mes… only daughter!
I have nothing but awsome memories from that evening. They will last a life time. You only live once, and a chance like this comes along less that that for most.
If I can give you a bit of advice, have some questions ready. You’ll kick yourself after if you don’t write them down first (I still am). Also, I hope you know how to fly, and how aircraft are built. Some veterans may use terms that only other pilots and aircrew understand. I am a former military pilot, now working in a civil job, ten years later I still refer to a down piece of equipment as “U/S”.
Have a great time tuesday. Just get some sleep monday night!!!
Awesome opportunity Marc-- I was fortunate enough to meet up with a local Airman a coule summers ago and got to talk quite a bit with him and build his aircraft as well…
