AS most of you have known for a while I have been working on a diorama for the Battle of the Bulge. I was weathering a while ago and wanted to try out putting mud on the boggies. It worked fine but then i realized that there wasnt much mud durring the battle because everything was frozen, however goin into Bastonge(sp?) the roads were mudy form the pictures i have found.
So anywho I was wondering what i could shift my diorama too. I still want it realated to the same topic but instead of the forest i was thining on a muddy road. Or perhaps buying a verlinden builing and making it is Bastonge, with mud all around.
I have my sherman form the GB with mud on it, destroyed jeep trailer with random gear spilled out of it, and dragons airborne infantry figures to work with. What are you ideas.
Thanks again.
Well, first you did I good job with putting mud on the boggies. Your right, it was frozen, but the only way that tanks were getting to the battle was on roads. These roads would get very, very, muddy due to all the melting snow and traffic. I like the Bastogne idea. I’ve always wanted to due a Battle of the Bulgde dio, especially since my Grandpa fought in that battle (I’ve tried to get ideas from him, but he doesn’t like to talk about it, so I figured I’d leave him alone). Good idea! A cool thing that you could do would be to show German tanks and vehicals that ran out of gas being shoved off the road. When the Germans ran out of gas the abondoned their tanks and vehicals and when we were gaining land back we had to shove them off the side of the road to get by with our tanks on the roads, so that would be a cool idea.
My grandfather was in the Bulge too. He was in the 4th armoured 37 tank battalion commpany C, he was with the spear head on the attack on bastonge.
