So, even before I sit down at my table to start working, I flip on the radio (to listen to my LA Kings) or dig thru my CDs to throw in the disk changer. I need some white noise while I work since I absolutely can’t work in silence. Just as I’m scooting in my chair, I wonder, what about you other folk? Do you have the radio on while modelling? The TV? And if so, what’s on? Although my musical tastes vary I’m mostly into punk, so more times than not, that’s what I’ll have on.
I usually have the TV or the radio on - just depends on my mood. Right now, I have the TV set to CMT (I LUUUV Country music!!!). If the TV is on, it’s usually set to either the History Channel, or Discovery Wings.
If the BlueJackets are on I’ve got them tuned in. I like The Who,Pink Floyd, or Me First and the Gimmegimmes for music while I model but I usually put on the TV (in the next room) to History. (I wish I had Discovery Wings)[:P]
The Jackets, eh? Do me a favor and have a sit down with Mr Marc Denis, he’s on my fantasy team and I could really use some shut-outs. Oh, and the Me Firsts, do they rock or what?
Kitaro(same as in the Kwoon), Vangelis, Tomita Isao, J.M. Jarre or some good modern chinese music
played by 12 Chinese ladies(guys over here will know what I am talking about).

At times I also listen to older music from my collection (60’s, 70’s & 80’s), I pop a MD into my player. All the music is transfered from the PC to the MD-Player using LP mode.
Either way the music is nornmally slowish and relaxing.
For real long listening 3+hrs I start the MP3 player on the PC and let it select songs randomly from the library.
TV I find too distracting especially since I got it normally on Discovery channel.

Yeah, I like music that either relaxes ie Floyd, Who… or pumps me up… Me First[:D]
Quite often I listen to Old Time Radio (OTR), mostly stuff from the 30’s & 40’s, or things having to do with WWII. Also, some audio books and modern audio documentaries.
As I write this I’m listening to ‘Dad’s Army’, which is a radio show based on a British TV comedy of the same name that ran from 1969 to 1977. It’s about the British Home Guard during WWII. Funny stuff…

Hey, Blackwolf. search out the Goon Show (plenty of links on the net) British BBC radio comedy from the 50’s. Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, & a host of character voices. there are about 22 tape sets & a few on CD on the market, 4 shows on each. just try not to giggle when you’re building something tricky, brilliant stuff.
As for Dad’s army - Mainwaring, " Don’t tell him your name, Pike"
Y’know, I’ve had a few episodes of the Goon Show here and there and never really got into it. I guess I’m just picky.
I’m glad I discovered Dad’s Army, though. It’s become my fave radio show, at least for the moment. [:p]
One of my favorite exchanges on the show was during the first episode:
Mainwaring: By the way, have you seen the morning papers? Lookit this. “Germans Advance 50 Miles”.
Wilson: Doesn’t look too good, does it sir?
Mainwaring: I can assure you that it’s all part of our master plan to lure them into a trap, they’ll never break through the Maginot Line, it’s impregnable.
Wilson: Well haven’t you heard, sir? 'Twas on the wireless, just before I left; the Germans have reached Holland.
Mainwaring: Good Lord! How on earth’d they do that? I could have sworn they’d never break through the Maginot Line.
Wilson: You’re quite right sir, they didn’t.
Mainwaring: Aha, I thought not. I’m a pretty shrewd judge of these matters, you know…
My preferred modelin’ subject is WWII aircraft, and I have just the thing for background audio “coloring” (jeez, I really AM an escapist nerd!): Earth Station One (http://www.earthstation1.com) puts out CD collections of actual WWII related speeches and broadcasts (Roosevelt, Churchill, Murrow, etc., etc.). They’re MP3 files, and run from any PC or MP3 player. You’ll feel just like “Rosie (er, or Robby) the Riveter” as you listen while constructing your scale military hardware for the cause of freedom, justice, and the American way. Modeling Luftwaffe? They also offer Third Reich marching songs.
There is an AM station out of Albany that plays a lot of big band and crooner stuff…and late night (which is usually when I model- when wife and baby are asleep)-- they have the OTR that blackwolf was talking about on-- Suspense, The Shadow, Jack Benny, Abbot and Costello, etc…
A TV and a VCR and I’m fine. I’ll usually have one of the science channels on, or a movie. Failing anything entertaining or informative I’ll put a news channel on :D. If there’s nothing on I’ll play a movie or some old TV show episodes. I do have a boom box in the room, but I’d usually rather have the TV on.
