I'm back.... after many years.

Hi, folks. This is Gary Mason, aka Devil Dawg (well, now it’s Devil Dawg II, as the site wouldn’t let me retrieve my old screen name). I’ve been away for quite a while (a few years) due to major neck and lower back surgeries, a surprise divorce, two heart attacks, cataract surgery, moving to the Asheville, NC, area, and a few other things. I also got married again to the best woman anyone could ever have!

But, things seem to have settled down now, so I’m gonna try to get back into modeling. It’s probably been three years (maybe more) since I last touched a model. I still have my stash, which is at approximately 170 kits, and it will probably grow some by this weekend, as there is an AMPS show in Columbia, SC, this coming Saturday (17 June 2023) that I plan to attend. As you know, any true modeler can’t attend a show without adding to the stash!

My main interest is 1/48th & 1/32nd USMC aircraft, but I have a little bit of other subjects in the stash as well (cars, motorcycles, a ship or two, etc.).

My house in Arden, NC, is three stories with a basement that I plan on getting ready for modeling and crafts very soon. My wife loves hobbies, too (including modeling!), so we both will share that area.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone, and seeing all the builds on here. Sorry that I was away for so long. Hopefully, it won’t happen again.

Hey, welcome back Gary! Glad to have you with us again.

Look forward to seeing your builds again.

Stay safe.

Welcome back. Sounds like a hell of a couple of years!

Welcome back Gary, and it’s good to see you back on here again! Wow about all the curve balls that life threw you, and kudos to you for bashing on thru them.

Welcome back to the bench and the forum,I wish I could make it to Columbia this weekend, but I have some plans.

Arden? I’m up in Leicester myself.Been known to go to 12 Bones and Sierra Nevada occasionally.

I think a model club meets the 1st Saturday of every month out in Hickory at the airport,it’s been awhile since I went though. The Hobby Town in Hickory is a 1st rate shop run by a model guy,has everything.

There is also a decent Hobby Town closer in Asheville that has good supplies and a decent variety of kits.

Hope this second go-round works out better.

Thanks, Mister Jim!

Thanks, Mister John!

Thanks, Stik!

Thanks, Tojo. Yep, Arden is just south of Asheville on US Highway 25 (Hendersonville Road. I live about a mile from the 12 Bones, and about three miles from Sierra Nevada.

I’ve found a few clubs to visit - two in South Carolina (Greenville & Spartanburg - both about an hour’s drive from me), and a new one in north Asheville. Looking forward to hitting all of those meetings soon.

I hit the HobbyTownUSA in south Asheville quite often. Didn’t know about the one in Hickory - might hafta visit sometime soon.

There is also a great mom-n-pop hobby shop in Hendersonville, NC - The Hobby House, at 1211 Asheville Highway Hendersonville, NC 28791. I frequent that place quite a bit. They have a little bit everything. And a very nice older couple own & run the place.

Hope to see you around sometime!

Gary
